what if.... they made toy of peter venkman .... and he was indian....... you would understand that because he isnt real and go along with it....... even though you grew up watching the the ghostbusters...... and know that he is played by a white guy who is very distinctive (Bill Murray )

and these are characters, not people. I hope you never have anything to do with movies, because you have no creativity and only see things how others tell you they should be. |

you are always right on the fact that they are not real people..... but what you fail to see is what i am saying.... and that is.......
its not the same as the original. for me personally i dont like it when characters are changed.... i hate sigma six i hate the 90's cartoon but.... i really enjoy RAH and resolute..... the old toy line and of course the original cartoon movie..... and that movie was sorta diff than the tv show yes but still kept the same characters..... and creativity.... well man i must say it takes more to make a whole to character rather than... just making it work out. |

you don't have to like it. but not liking it doesn't reflect anything negative about the change itself or the fact that the characters can be more or different from the specific incarnation you prefer. |

They messed with the history and certain personalities of GI JOE

With that said I want to still keep things factual thus my statements. ROC was not a hit and it was not a failure. It was right down the middle and a sequel can go either way. The potential was there and somehow slipped through Paramount and Hasbros hands. Actually it was greed in trying to get the script out before the writers strike........ people get sloppy and mistakes happen. Mistakes certainly happened in the making of this film and it showed! |

Some aspects of characters aren't changeable, race isn't one of them (for most characters, but not all). There are a few characters (and talking not just Joe here but everything) that are fixed to a certain race (John Shaft comes to mind, he just wouldn't be Shaft if he was anything but black). Frodo is a hobbit, that would be an unchangeable race. Spock not being Vulcan. For those characters, the race is essential to who they are. But for the vast majority of them out there, race isn't an essential character trait. Could Peter Venkman be chinease? Sure he could, except it's not a very chinease name but anyways.... Being white was not essential to Venkman's character. We're just use to that appearance of the character. Nick Fury from Marvel Comics is a good example. The main line has him an old grizzled white guy. The Ultimate line has him a younger black guy. Both are the same character, they are both Nick Fury. Most of the Joes, the race isn't an essential part of the character, we're just used to seeing them portrayed that way.
