This is form Box Office Mojo.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra (2009) Worldwide: $188,189,905 (these are a week behind) well i think showing the two numbers like that together should rest any douts that the film is going to make a profit at the end on it's run. I mean it's already got close to 200 mil already

G.I.Joe doesn't need a crappy movie to sell it's line of toys. And Resolute had a better story than ROC. And was only 50+ minutes.

you still can't argue the numbers of the foreign and domestic totals
Domestic: $101,188,544 + Foreign: $89,612,376 = Worldwide: $190,800,920

Excellent plan. It only took 27 years to happen the first time, so maybe we'll get a "right" G.I. Joe film in... oh... 2035 or something? By then I'm sure they'll be fighting for the chance to make a "gritty military drama" that everyone wants so much.
Hold on to those dreams! Justin |

It seems the big question is what was the marketing budget?
$150 Million? I really don't know... It has cleared the production cost, but the marketing is the missing variable to determine if this movie can actually make a profit. I hope Paramount didn’t sink an additional $150 mil on top of the production cost…

Two weeks isn't going to make or break the movie. Haters- stop celebrating! Merchandising, DVD sales, Toys, Toys, and TOYS!!! It's not over until the fat lady sings. (Can you tell I like the movie a little bit?)

Don't get me wrong, I don't WANT it to fail. I just wish they had made a good movie.
I'll buy the ROC figures and vehicles that I think are cool, and I think a lot of them are cool. If they completely go in a direction that I dislike then I will stop collecting. It happened to me before in the 80s and it could happen again. |

Do people honestly think that, the further we move away from the original 1980's setting, we're going to get a GI JOE film that features 'traditional' combat-themed concepts and technology set in a contemporary world?
Please...

Ummm, you can when the movie had a $175 million production budget and a rumored $150 million dollar marketing budget. That's $325 million dollars in cost versus $190 million in tickets sold worldwide (a big chunk of which goes to theatre owners)... And it's dying fast at the box office too. Poor word of mouth and bad reviews are sinking it like a stone. Around a 60% drop in it's second weekend, getting beat by the low-budget District 9 and almost getting beat by The Time Traveler's Wife, to be folowed by getting creamed by Inglorious Basterds this weekend. The only thing that could have sustained it for a longer run would have been good reviews...which it didn't get. Gotta say, I'm pretty happy to see this go bust. I love G.I.Joe....and that turd on the screen is an insult to it. Sallah |
