the dark night is intensely overrated.
it was created to sway public opinion about homegrown terrorism and privacy. batman sucks. i hope he dies in a fire. gi joe had cooool villains and costume design. i would prefer gi joe be direct to video live action with intentionally cheesy props and dialogue. i loved mortal kombat 2... it sucked so bad it was awesome. |

There are many people out there that want that to be the case, so that doesn't surprise me one bit. The odd part to me, and I'm both a TF fan and a Joe fan, is that I honestly think that ROC was a far better movie than TF2. Seriously.

DETH OF TEH LINE! But seriously, what amazes is me is the self-defeating circle a lot of the "it's a failure!" crowd want to get into: They keep saying, "I hope it fails so we can get a G.I. Joe we want!" but seem to think that the studios are going to pony up for a "reboot" if the first one underperformed? Do they think G.I. Joe toys are going to enjoy the same level of distribution and production levels that it's getting for RoC with no movie to tie into? No, if anything it could very well get knocked down to levels that make the early 25A/ME collection look like Star Wars by comparison. Or perhaps worst of all, the possibility that they can't seem to wrap their minds around, is that a "failure" of RoC will be seen as a failure of the ARAH characters (because to retailers, there's no difference between RoC Snake-Eyes and ARAH Snake-Eyes), and Hasbro will once and for all abandon those characters and that era. All good things and all that.... It probably won't come to that, though. From what I've seen the toys are doing reasonably well. Yeah there are significant pegwarmers, but compared to say, Star Trek or Terminator they're selling like hotcakes. Heck, Terminator toys are getting clearanced out before the holidays at Wal-Mart and Target, which means they were a HUGE failure. At this rate, I'm betting the line gets "downsized" to levels around the same as late-era ME after the Holidays, which will make all those cool figures they showed off at Joe Con this weekend harder to find, and may jeopardize future vehicle plans, but the line will continue in some form or another. |

It isn't a 'blockbuster', but I think when it's done that it'll be a 'moderate success'. Don't forget that a lot of set building is already done for the sequal too (The PIT for example), plus development on costumes and such won't be as expensive for the second one as all that groundwork was done for the first film.

I doubt if paramount is making anything from the toys as someone earlier suggested, no reason for Hasbro to do that, it's there property to begin with.
I just hope they release the DVD as a special edition "ACTUALLY FINISHED" movie with a "REAL" CGI team working out the kinks...and then hopefully keep that team for the sequel. Movie was "Good"...CGI was "Crap". Paramount owns the designs of all the characters in the movie.Like the black suits, accelerators suits, etc. |

Well any movie released in late July-August doesn't do as well as movies released in May - mid July simply because folks start winding down from summer movie fever.
Which doesn't mean it not a good movie. Stealth was pretty good and was said to be a hit that no one saw because it came out on July 29th. That fact is that with the amount of money Gi Joe has made, which far was far more the projected at last report, it doing darn good for an August movie. I can't help but feel it would of had a better start money wise if it came out in the first week of July. It also has to fight against bias critics like this. Note the political references 'G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra'

In other words, I'm pretty sure Hasbro doesn't license G.I. Joe to Paramount and the Paramount turn around and license "G.I. Joe: Rise of Cobra" to Hasbro. |

I hope there is a sequel and with a new director and CGI team; Ive seen better CGI on the CW channel and Sci- Fi. I was worried about Sommers taking the helm and all fears were confirmed. It's a rental movie at best.

so Joe is about 90 mil behind huh? Eh.. could be worse, but you are right not exactly super blockbuster. They still need another 80 Mil just to break even.
