That may have been true in the 80's. It's absolutely not true now. If you compare the average number of registered users on Transformers-based boards to those on Joe-based boards, or even just the "active posters" you'll quickly find that Transformers fans greatly outweigh G.I. Joe fans these days. Likewise if you compare the attendance at BotCon to the attendance at JoeCon (I believe BotCon gets about three times as many people?). Heck, you can see it right here: TW2005 boards registered users: About 43,000. Hisstank registered users: About 13,000.
Transformers as a franchise has continued to gain fans over the last 15 years while Joe basically languished. Plus, Transformers has a robust international fan-base that drastically outnumbers international fans of G.I. Joe. G.I. Joe may have been on top once upon a time, but it's not anymore, and hasn't been for quite some time. Sure, there are likely more people in the US that had G.I. Joe toys as a kid than Transformers (though most likely had some of both), but just because they played with it as a kid doesn't mean they're a "fan" now. I'm sorry but your wrong on this one. A "Blockbuster" is all about money. There have been a ton a films that have come out during the summer time that have had great action and they were never called Blockbusters. If the general public doesn't fill the theater you end up with a "Cult Classic". (AKA Army of Darkness)

I can't believe this thread is still going. You guys are like a dog with a bone on some of these stupid issues. Geez just let it go already. The movie has done fine. Maybe it won't be a billion dollar blockbuster but it's not a complete failure either.
One of the few characters I REALLY wanted hasbro to make in the 25th line. Instead we got a 15th Cobra Commander. Last edited by jaxscorpio; 08-20-2009 at 02:15 PM.. |

About that though Sci-Fi, is subjective, the fictional aspect is starting to lose ground. Cloning? We can do it now. Robots? We've been able to do that now. Weather controlling devices? Give it time, this global warming thing will need to be addressed sooner or later. Laser guns? We absolutely can and have made them. The snake men thing? Ok you got me there. Sci-Fi though is as Joe has been progressing. Parents and especially Grandparents still here G.I. Joe and they think of that doll from the 60's. |

Yeah but there is a huge difference here. TDK got a huge buzz because of Heath Ledger and Batman is a lot more popular than G.I. Joe.
