You can't use this as a comparison, an actor from the Dark Knight killed himself before the release ... a number of the people who went to see Dark Knight was out of a morbid curiosity ... also, everyone that Saw Batman Begins were raving about it and it wasn't handicapped by a group of nay-sayers who felt that their opinion was the only thing that mattered and they were going to do anything to get their way.

Paramount would disagree with you. Paramount makes money only off the movie. If it tanks (which it looks like it is doing), then Paramount is screwed. Hasbro isn't going to give another company toy money.

The Dark Knight was a great movie. One of the actors was even nominated for an Academy Award for his performance. Plus the movie was well written, the cast was tremendous, and the special effects were solid. Don't minimize the greatness of TDK to try to justify ROC's mediocre showing. I do think it's unfair to compare to two because let's face it, ROC is a joke compared to TDK.

the movie is far from tanking, you can't make such an assertion and expect to be taken seriously. it will, at the worst, break even, and will probably make a small profit. the question is, will it make enough money to be considered a blockbuster? probably not.

On that note I am going to say it was somewhat of a success. The other day I was in Target and saw a mom and her little boy school shopping. He was wearing a GI Joe back pack they clearly hadn't paid for yet and was begging for the GI Loe lunchbox to go along with the other GI Joe school stuff he had in the basket. Yes, I was being a nosy shopper when I heard him begging for GI Joe. It also appears that some Joe figures and small vehicles have been moving quite regularly at the Target and WM stores around me. So someone is buying them even if it's not me. Things like the Raven, Pit and so forth aren't really selling well at all though. It could just be that they're price is a bit much right now.

Tanking would be not making it's budget back.

I get the feeling a lot more people will see it when it comes to the 2nd run/$2 movie theater. The studios DO make money off these receipts too, don't they?
And then the DVD sales are how they make the marketing budget back I would guess...anyone heard a figure for that budget? |

what did Hasbro pay them and why would they pay them? making a Joe movie is nothing more than a licensing agreement. in licensing, the IP owner is the one that gets paid. I'd like to see the source of your information.
