Also the Dark Knight had an extra boost with the death of Heath Ledger. I think TDK was a fanstatic movie but from a money point of view Ledger's death really aided that movie's financial revenue.

Hate to tell you this but you and Samantha are wrong:
Okay let me explain this for all of us that confused: When you buy a movie ticket the money does not just go to the Production company. The house keeps a profit. for every dollar spent 60 cents goes to the production company and 40 cents stays with the theater. A movie theater takes in about 45% of all ticket sales. But for the sake of argument we will say 40% leaving the other 60% for the studio. So if ROC has made thus far 164 million worldwide.... The studio has made around 90 million...... Far from a hit! This is why they say a film has to do double its budget to make any money back..... ROC is not going to make that. When you compare it to a movie like Fantastic Four you also have to remember that their production budget was only 100 million, 75 million less than ROC........ what that means is they only had to hit anything over 200 million to start making a profit.......Fantastic Four stopped at 330 million dollars. Impressive for a 100 million dollar film. Again Roc has to make almost 200 million dollars more than where they are at right now. They need at least 300 million to be considered breaking even. Does anyone really think they are going to pull that off? District 9 is going to be the Little Engine that could and continue to dominate over ROC until Inglorious Basterds comes out in four days. Toy sales, does Paramount get a piece of the pie? The only indication that Paramount will make anything off these figures is the use of the likeness of the toys. But the reality is that we don't know if they will see a dime. Either way toy sales are no way factored in the decision to make a sequel. Again as I have said in other posts: Studios do not count DVD sales into their equation.....They go by Theatrical sales and theatrical sales only to determine if a film is a hit. Now DVD sales can help get a sequel greenlit but that is the exception not the norm. Not to mention that studios spend a pretty penny to promote the DVD release........ DVD sales are factored into recoup that loss..... DVD sales are not used to offset Pre-production, production, marketing and or anything else. They are an entity onto themselves. A GI JOE sequel would need to be bigger and more expensive then ROC....... Paramount is going to have to think long and hard if they are willing to spend over 175 million.... that's a huge commitment. Or they hire a Director that knows how to budget a film. |

It was the first two acts of the film that seperated it in quality from anything that came before it. And thats where the whole "must save the city" concept was seeded, so it didn't seem forced. It was the father / son relationship and how that manifested itself in representation of Thomas Wayne's image via Gotham City. His father's memory had been let to rot after his death and while he was away. Quote:
TDK is boring.

And it has no central character or story arc.

Bale is not very charismatic

(in any role he does)
All those films he was tremendously charismatic. Now it if you think charismatic means exclusively being "funny" then you have a different meaning of the word all together. Does Bale have a fascination with cold, stoic, introverted, "bad ass" characters? Yes. But why fault him for it? He's extremely good at potraying them. Quote:
I actually think the first Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie has been one of the best comic book movies. It was very accurate to the comic. It also had a bit of heart to it and developed each of its characters. For a relatively low-budget movie, it worked very well. Most people brush it off, because the sequels were terrible.

Although, Batman: Mask of the Phantasm is equally as good and the best treatment of Batman (and Joker) in a feature film.
MOTP is a good flick, but no ... just no. |

You do get the joke in what you just wrote there right. I mean please tell me you really do see this. Let's just forget about all the time he spent with Jack and how he talked about how much he researched all the other jokers. Also where is the follow up with that whole zeitgeist post 911 world bit. Like a dog with a bone you are. If you don't know the meaning of that phrase I'll help you out. It means once you got a hold of something you just can't let go no matter what.

'60s Batman movie is awesome, if you realize you're not supposed to be watching a serious movie, but a comedy and parody movie. '60s Batman was hilarious. |

I don't understand the problem folks have with Tatum or Summers. I had no problem with Tatum as Duke and Summers definitely delivered the blow 'em up flick that I wanted out of a GI Joe movie. I also wasn't as annoyed with Wayans being Ripcord as I thought I'd be. Yes, I still say Ripcord should be white but, generally speaking, I was ok with Wayans excluding the whole romance with Scarlet crap. I really see no reason for a reboot either. The sequel just needs to do a good job of undoing the stupid crap they gave us in the first movie. Make the Baroness a woman driven by money and power. Make Scarlett and Duke all yo joesy for one another. Make SS not be dead. Give CC a hood or a better mask than that thing he wore at the end. There, problems solved...for me anyway.
