Just saw the opening figures for ROC in the UK, with a paltry £1.7m, beaten by romcom the Ugly Truth with £1.9m
With a non existing marketing campaign and the worst reviews I've ever seen for a blockbuster, it's no surprise. BTW, saw it for 2nd time today and really enjoyed it. When you hype a film so much based on your own expectations, it's always difficult to be objective with it. Still has all the emotional depth of a toy but great fun and never boring. Full force!!! |

Same thing happened with TRANSFORMERS I think, although it was the SIMPSONS that beat that one.
The reason: We Brits are arrogant, pretentious gits full of our own puffed-up importance. GI JOE is beneath us and never stood a chance, despite the people who I know that have seen it (including cinema staff) enjoying the film a lot.

Any film with a title like that never stood a chance here, regardless of it's perceived 'quality'.
I heard at least one party making remarks to the tune of "Good film, but stupid title". It literally means nothing here in the UK.

On the other hand, you guys get James Bond, King Arthur, a long storied history, and nifty accents. Ok, sad feelings gone now.

I actually wonder if that's true. if the movie had been titled action force for our UK brethren would it have succeeded?
