I think Flint is his own man. And I couldn't see Brandon Frasier playing that role... he comes across as a man with the IQ of someone like Gung-Ho, not a Rhodes Scholar like Flint.
If Frasier Plays Flint, I may pass on the sequel. Flint is my favorite character. As for the beret issue - Stone and Hawk are both already wearing Black Berets - that's an easy fix. Flint is supposed to be Special Forces, which means his beret should technically be green. On the other hand, since the ROC version of the Joes is an international team, they could use his Action Force version: David Fairborne: SAS, which means a khaki/sand colored beret. As for who should play Flint, it's hard but I'd go with Matthew Fox. He seems like a Smart guy, and he's into outdoor sports. Seems like he could pull it off. Although, he's already 43, so maybe he's a little too old. A young George Clooney or a young Daniel Day Lewis could have done it pretty well. Ryan Reynolds could do it. He's a good actor, a handsome fellow, in good shape, and he's got that cocky swagger. He's about 32... it could work. He also looks like a young Don Johnson to me, so he might even work as Falcon. Since we saw the Flagg at the end of the movie, we'll probably see it in the sequel... I wonder if we could get Tom Selleck to play Keel Haul? That would be pretty sweet. I supposed I've always wanted Magnum to be a Joe!

Based on Brendon Fraser's interview at Comicon my understanding is that he was meant to appear as Gung Ho but didn't want to look like one of the Village People. He then said another character he wanted to play wasn't possible due to copyright issues - this would suggest he was going to appear as Sgt Slaughter as the name and character isn't owned by Hasbro. Therefore they just made up Sgt Stone as the GI JOE trainer.
Shame they didn't name him Sgt Slammer - don't worry, private joke amongst UK GI JOE collectors. |

Flint is too popular a character to be relegated to some two minute cameo appearance not even using his real code name. I have a feeling we'll see Flint in the sequel, and that Sgt. Stone was simply a quick and dirty homage that shouldn't be viewed as anything more than that.

He wouldn't be wearing the uniform if he was demoted - You get promoted from Captain to Major not vice versa. if it's a flash back scene then he could still be a promotable Captain in present time and the unit would continue to address his rank as so. He states he is a Captain in both past and present...
I could see your theory being acceptable witha dif' twist...mabey considering he would have been a Promotable Captain for four years of service (&#^$???) would breaking up bars be the reason they were not giving him his full promotion? Then again, would an honorable team leader be breaking up bars? I think Ripcord was kidding when he said that... Do I win a "No Prize"? My hunch is a little less complicated, he was a promotable Captain and was never promoted because he became Special Ops
