GI JOE sequel confirmed!!!!!
Enitre cast set to return (contractually obligated) Summers not confirmed to return to direct ---------------------------------------------------------------- "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" earned a studio-estimated $100 million around the globe on its opening weekend, marking Paramount's third successful big-budget action movie of the summer, albeit the smallest one. The film came in about $10 million under the opening weekend of "Star Trek," which earned $75.2 million domestically and about $35 million overseas. "G.I. Joe" did better internationally, where it grossed a studio-estimated $44 million, despite not yet launching in several key markets, including Germany and Italy. It underperformed "Trek" in the U.S. and Canada, where it opened to $56.2 million. That's certainly good enough for Paramount to claim victory, however, and start thinking about the future. The studio's vice chairman, Rob Moore, confirmed that a sequel will soon go into development. The film's lead actors are contractually obligated to return for another film, though director Stephen Sommers is not. ---------------------------------------------------------------- 'G.I. Joe' opens to $100 million worldwide, but will it hold? | Company Town | Los Angeles Times |

I'd take Uwe Boll at this point.

John McTiernan? James Cameron? McG could do it too (Terminator 4 not bad at all!)
I can see how Sommers does not know how to produce a film of this magnitude. He reshuffles character/plot points and I am not convinced it is any better than the original so the question is why bother? No matter how much people enjoyed the film, this film needs a seasoned pro who knows how to make a good action film. We will probably will get Sommers again but he doesn't deserve this job. Paramount would only get someone even worse qualified to do the sequel. I will be writing Paramount and Hasbro what I think. I encourage anyone else who feels anyway near how I feel to do the same thing. Here are their addresses, please write them and tell them to improve the next one! Thanks!!! Well, I'm of two minds on this.
A) Great that they have enough faith to give another Joe flick a go. B) And it sucks, because the ROC debating will continue, now that we know there will be another one. I'm already tired of the ton of threads bashing, whining, complaining, supporting, and breaking down of the movie. Sigh. More to come, I suppose. I do hope that whatever happens, they maybe take a look at some things and make some changes, and don't go the TF route (more of the same, just bigger).
