you lost respect for him because he didn't make a lot writing comics? because he was able to parlay that into a consulting gig that allowed him to make more money? what exactly are you saying here? it seems to teeter on communism, a far cry from someone who purports to love a Real American Hero.

Nope...I always read your posts, bro..But sometimes I think you just dont want to see others opinions, because you just think that anyone who dosent think like you is wrong. With some of the stuff that Hama has said in interviews, He went from my "favorite" comic guy, to not so favorite. Now I dropped the Origins comic book, for two reasons, It sucks..and Hama dropped lower on my fan tree. If Origins was still good, and I didnt like what Hama said..I might still buy it, but a combination of the two has me dropping that crap.
Its the same thing for me as some of these big name, anti american, Leftist Hollywood actors. When they come out, and bash our troops, or say things that I find SO REDICULOUS, I WILL NOT patronize them, I wont see the movies or any crap they put out. My point being, some Hollywood actors, AND people like Hama, that Bash their fans or their fans beliefs, are setting themselves up for failure. These are the perfect example of when people should NOT say anything, if they dont have anything good to say at all. So you may say "we" didnt make Hama what he is, but as far as I know he was Nothing, or on his way to flippin burgers when he got the Marvel GIJOE job. Success with the Marvel Joe line enabled him to do The Nam', and Nth Men, and progress further in the industry. If he wasnt a part of 80's joe without the filecards and comic book, the figures MAY NOT have been as successful. Its all theoretical of course...And you probably dont agree, but thats how I see it. And if All of Hamas current comic work DIDNT sell, how much longer would big name companys hire him? No dude...I DONT think that was cool what he said there and in other interviews...I KNOW your a huge Joe fan, just as I am. I dont care if LH loses sleep. But im just not dedicated to him like I used to be, and if there are MORE fans like me, then sales will suffer, and THAT..no matter what you say..hurts him...from something stupid that he may should have not said. Its NOT the ONE comment he said about "haters" either. Ive read a LOT of different interviews, where, to sum it up, he finds it suprising that people "Like that crap" as much as they did, and time and time again he Moans when people are excited to talk to "the father of G.I.Joe"

But thats not what GI JOE is about lol! People seem to get hung up on the military aspect - but its more sci fi/fantasy than anything else. For Batman, being reinvented in a more gritty-reality based setting works because the source material lends itself to that, but by doing it that way they expelled any chance of using the more fantastical characters in the Batman mythos (Clayface,Man-Bat etc). Which is ok for Batman - cuz he has plenty more to choose from. GI JOE is FULL of characters like "Dr.Mindbender" and "Serpentor"....try saying those names in a serious way! LOL They COULD do GI JOE all gritty and serious...but it would end up having about 3 characters in it.....and about 5% of the fun and escapism that actually attracted most of us into it in the first place...most adult fans seem to lose sight of that, because they are infact now ADULTS.

Easy ways to make the sequel darker:
Baroness goes irrevocably insane/evil after trying to fight the nanomites too long. (Or perhaps better yet, Dr. Mindbender shows up with a "new and improved" version that completely destroys "good" Anna). Duke becomes a wreck, requiring Hawk to make newly-introduced Flint the field leader. Snake-Eyes hears rumors Storm Shadow is still alive, leaves the team to go searching for him. Along the way he discovers (maybe with an appearance by the Soft Master?) that Storm Shadow didn't kill the Hard Master (cue introduction of Firefly). Also, give us a flashback that takes place between the Hard Master's murder and RoC that shows Snake-Eyes' face getting f-ed up while rescuing Scarlett from somethingorother. Scarlett pines for Snake-Eyes in his absence, totally screwing up her (non) relationship with Ripcord. Mindbender (on Cobra Commander's behalf) has secretly infected a bunch of lawyers/businessmen/politicians with the mind-altering nanomites, turning them into the Crimson Guard. (Feel free to throw the twins in here, too). Of course, we'll be lucky if they do any of these things, but a guy can dream. Edit: You don't have to use nanomites to make a bunch of lawyers/businessmen/politicians evil Last edited by Goldface; 08-10-2009 at 07:55 PM.. |

Yeah, that would work for me, too. Act 2 always has to be about character development...

I'm not sure how he owes them for his ability that instigated that consumer behavior. buying the comic wasn't charity work, everyone who did so made a decision that they wanted what he was selling. |

No, no I agree with you! I don't want GI Joe to be all military and death and all that shite. I love the SCi-Fi/fantasy elements as much as the next guy. I guess my point is that Spielberg knows how to do character driven, gritty action AND fantasy films, so he would be able to inject a lot of these elements into the sequel and please both camps at the same time. I'm not saying he SHOULD do the sequel but if his name came up as a possible director I'd be supportive.

I could see someone of Spielbergs cailbur being Producer for a Joe movie - but not Director. Personally if Sommers doesnt come back (which Im pretty sure he will) Id like to see someone like Louis Leterrier

if stanley kubrick were alive i would adore seeing him go apeshit on gi joe.
have any of you read any analysis of the subliminals in full metal jacket? holy crap theres alot going on there. but good movies died (for the most part) with stanley kubrick. nobody will ever come anywhere close to being as completely mind melting as his stuff. in which case i dont care who does it. i liked rise of cobra just fine. like i said i will end up spending MUCH more time talking about it than i will watching it. which is absurd. haha |

Yep. It was funny. I almost walked out. I think my vintage Duke from ARAH has more life than Tatum.
