movie ticket sales
DVD/ blu ray sales
than selling it to a network to show on tv
whoever thinks that paramount wont make their money back is so filled with hate that they cant wipe the tears from their eyes for one second to realize that this movie is a success. open your eyes, wishing the GI Joe movie failed is not a way to get a reboot. Its a way of screwing over the brand and getting nothing in the future.
Resolute was for the collector, the movie is for everyone.

I don't need any insecure loser comic book fanboy jerk-offs or over-the-hill movie critics telling me what I should be watching.

It's your Mom's bed that's getting cold.
Not many basements in Hawai'i.
Yeah. Just keep buying the toys, IDW's comics & spending your money on the movie tix, DVDs, etc.. Who gives a crap about the good source material, right? I mean, a lot of the superficial stuff they took inspiration for this movie is all they needed, right? Right.
Have fun, peeps. If you put money into lame movies, that's what you'll get. And that's what you deserve.

just look at what it had to go up ageist nothing that joe couldn't beat now if District 9 came out this weekend we could be looking at a dif story.
actors are contractually obligated to return for another film, though director Stephen Sommers is not.
There is reason to be concerned about whether "G.I. Joe" will fade quickly at the box office. The film experienced a sizable 18% drop in domestic ticket sales from Friday to Saturday, indicating audience word of mouth may not be great, despite a solid rating of B+ from opening-day moviegoers, according to market research firm CinemaScore. "Star Trek" saw its ticket sales increase from Friday to Saturday and went on to more than triple its opening-weekend gross.
Such a fate looks unlikely for "G.I. Joe," particularly with "District 9" opening Friday and expected to perform well with males, who made up more than 60% of the audience for Paramount's film. Moore said that Paramount will aim marketing more at families going forward as a result, hoping to persuade more parents to take older children to the PG-13 film. Families made up a significant one-third of moviegoers this weekend.
Here are the top 10 films at the domestic box office, according to studio estimates and Hollywood.com:
1. "G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra" (Paramount/Spyglass): Opened to $56.2 million domestically and $44 million overseas.
2. "Julie & Julia" (Sony Pictures): $20.1 million on its first weekend.
3. "G-Force" (Disney): Down 44% on its third weekend to $9.8 million. Total ticket sales in the U.S. and Canada: $86.1 million. Not great given the $150-million production budget.
4. "Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince" (Warner Bros.): $8.9 million, a decline of 50% on its fourth weekend. Domestic total: $273.8 million.
5. "Funny People" (Universal/Sony/Relativity): A sharp drop of 65% on its second weekend to $7.9 million. Total domestic ticket sales: $40.4 million.
6. "The Ugly Truth" (Sony): Declined 47% to $7 million. Domestic gross to date: $69.1 million.
7. "A Perfect Getaway" (Universal/Rogue): Launched to $5.8 million.
8. "Aliens in the Attic" (Fox/New Regency): $4 million on its second weekend, down 50%. A weak $16.3 million in U.S. and Canadian ticket sales so far.
9. "Orphan" (Warner Bros./Dark Castle): Declined 50% on its third weekend to $3.7 million. Domestic total: $34.8 million.
10. "(500) Days of Summer" (Fox Searchlight): Earned $3.7 million as it expanded to 817 theaters. Total gross for the indie romantic comedy is now $12.3 million, making it the biggest limited release of the year so far.

I'm not even sure what you are trying to claim, that G.I. Joe is going to gross less next week than this week because of District 9? No, G.I. Joe was going to gross less because it is a week old and that's what happens.
if District 9 only beats G.I. Joe by $10 million or less next weekend, that says more for interest in G.I. Joe than less just because it was beaten by a new movie. only two movies this entire summer have held the number 1 spot for two weeks in a row -- The Hangover and Transformers. G.I. Joe not doing it won't be simply because of District 9.
what exactly are you suggesting is going to occur next weekend that isn't expected?

I think the the film will make its money back through domestic and International box office and DVD/Blu-ray sales easily.
As for DVD and Blu-ray release, I'm already looking forward when it comes out on Blu!

Just want to point out a few things.
Studios only get a portion of box office. Theaters take a sizable chunk as well. So when ROC makes 50 million in one weekend, Paramount is only getting a portion of that number.
GI Joe was said to cost $200 million to make. This may or may not include advertising. It will need to make at least $200 million at the box office to guarantee a sequel.
Look at Superman Returns. It cost roughly the same to make. It made just over $200 million domestically. And a sequel is completely stalled. The studio is no leaping to make a sequel. Sure, they're developing one, but Hollywood is developing tons of properties that won't see the light of day.
I'm not trying to be a pessimist. I think ROC was adequate. And its weekend take is expected. It just needs to make $200 domestic to guarantee a sequel. And before international box office is thrown around, remember that they have to advertise and strike prints of the movie to send to all those different countries. International box office isn't pure profit.
And for those that hope that ROC will fail, so a "reboot" will take place. No studio is going to want to invest well over a hundred million developing a property that failed at the box office.
The best we can all hope for is that positive word-of-mouth from the masses spreads, and ROC makes enough for a sequel. For the sequel, many issues that fans had can be addressed and fixed, giving us a sequel that most can agree on.
