Went to to see the movie to day. Took my seven year old step son. He thought it was just ok. I went in with and open mind, and still I didnt think it was that great. For several reason's. First and for most to much use of CGI. The accelerator suits should have been left on the cutting room floor. I always thought G.I. Joe used his own skill's and abilities to defeat cobra not some suit. Furthermore, who ever was the military advisor for this move did a dreadfull job. The night raven was horrible looked so fake. Overall I just needs cleaned up.
On with the good. I think the story was great. Cobra hell bent on destorying the world and G.I. Joe there to stop them. Ripcord...I hate to say it but Waynes did a good job, He reminded me on how some of the senior nco's acted in my unit. Also Dennis Quaid wasnt to bad but he needs to loose the belt buckle and berret. Befor this turns into some to long. Lets fix the little stuff and get another one out. So everyone go do you part and see the movie so we can get a second and third.... |

I walked in like so many others having listened to all the other critiques and thought this will be total crap. So wrong, it is not oscar material but a darn good movie, cheesy in some parts but overall I was surprised by how much I enjoyed it, looking forward to a sequel. YO JOE!
As a total aside, my local Wal Mart blows in terms of restocking. They have not gotten any joes at all until today when I scored my DR, Baronness (PP), Arctic Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow, now the wal mart is just OK. |

*SPOILER ALERT*
I posted this thread for the people who liked the movie for what it is! There's so many negative threads about this movie I thought I'd focus on the positives, like the fact that they even made a Joe movie! I like how they mixed it all up! This was good summer popcorn action movie for all ages! A lot of people out there (including this web site) are so quick to criticize the casting, the script, etc. I'd admit I was a little skeptical with the casting but I think it does the franchise good, keeps fans guessing! I think having a mainly younger cast broadens the general audience and keeps the franchise fresh. I also thought there was a good mixture of action, comedy, romance, and suspense. The Duke/Baroness/Destro love triangle was a nice twist. The Doctor Rex/Cobra Commander transformation was wicked. Even the Ripcord/Scarlett thing was quite shocking, yet appealing. Lots of people are bashing this movie based of the Scarlett/Ripcord relationship. I think the "real" issue is that Ripcord is black and Scarlett is like this smoking hot redhaired white chick! If Rip was white or hispanic it would've never been brought up! On another note, the action was good and well paced throughout the length of the movie! I like how they didn't focus on Snake Eyes too much (like X-Men did with Wolverine)! All the joes had good scene time (with the exception of Cover Girl)! It wasn't all about one joe single handedly eliminating cobra. Duke, Ripcord, and Snake Eyes each shared heroic battle scenes in the finale! I personally liked the movie very much but people are entitled to their own opinion! It just seems like a lot people, in particular joe fans, are complaining about the differences between the movie and the original RAH storyline. Too busy trying to point out meaningless things instead of enjoying and appreciating a high quality adaptation of a classic comic/cartoon series. We joe fans should be grateful to have this movie.

It's an issue because Snake-Eyes/Scarlett relationship is central to the mythos. It's why Snake Eyes has a scarred face... It would be like making The Baroness Duke's ex fiance and Cobra Commander her brother and... Wait? What? They did that, too? Yeah, this movie sucks giant elephant balls. Bad acting. Bad casting. Bad special effects. Ignoring 27 years of established continuity. Bad movie. If the movie was called anything else, it would still be bad. "What's in a name? That which we call a rose By any other name would smell as sweet." G.I. Joe or not, this was a bad movie. Last edited by Big Country; 08-08-2009 at 07:22 PM.. |
