I liked the movie a lot, but I thought Channing Tatum couldn't act at all. He was the worst thing in the movie, IMO.

Tatum was very stiff, especially at the beginning of the movie. I haven't seen much of his stufif, so I don't know if that's just his baseline or not. It's funny how most people were so upset with Ripcord being black, but Wayans is a better actor than Tatum, IMHO.

Much like Marlon Wayans as Ripcord, Channing Tatum was Duke in name only.

He's a bad actor, so he's pretty much a bad fit for anything.

If you liked the movie then I can't see a reason you wouldn't buy it, much less drop the extra green on the 2 disc version. (I do not, however, understand how you can be both drunk AND hung over at the same time. But I digress...)
In theory I commend your efforts to boost the self-esteem of a company that has sunk millions of dollars into a franchise that it owns and has spent the last three decades pouring money into. However, that is not what I'm really addressing. I totally understand loyalty to a franchise that has been such a huge part of ones life. I ended up owning a large number of Star Wars prequel figures and DVDs every time George Lucas decided to crap all over his own invention. We've all grown up thinking these properties belong to us as fans and individuals and then hoist ourselve on our own petards when we end up hating the direction they take but still spend huge amounts of money supporting them. This movie was awful. If you thought it was great, then I whole-heartedly support you spending whatever number of dollars makes you comfortable and happy. However, those people who hated it and still managed to find themselves in line at Wal-Mart at midnight are the ones with which I'm taking issue. If so many hate how bastardized a franchise becomes but go out and spend mega bucks on supporting it in the hopes that it will one day start to go the way we individually want it to go, then we're pissing up a rope. I don't understand how we can hate something but spend money on it because we don't want it to go away in the hopes of it changing into what we really want it to be when we've just spent money on exactly what we have been given by the people we don't like for doing to it what we don't like and then finacially supporting everything they do? If that sentence doesn't make sense, it's because the notion I'm arguing against doesn't make any sense: it's intentional. I love my 25th anniversay figures. I'm glad I was given the chance to buy them and support the version of G.I. Joe that exists in my head; the version of G.I. Joe I grew up with and wanted again. If the DVDs and action figures that are available make you happy, then buy away. But, don't assume you're making it any easier for you to get what you really want just because you spend money on what you're being offered and begrudgingly accept as an alternative. If everyone who loved Star Wars had stopped spending money on the franchise after Episode 1 came out would things have gone differently? Can't answer that, since I and everyone else kept buying the toys and tickets to watch the next abortion. SW is a brand, just like G.I. Joe. So, do yourself a favor and buy what you really like and not every piece of crap that has the label slapped on it. Don't catch up with the brand, let the brand catch up with you. |

I know some think he did well, and that's your opinion. But in reality, from someone like me who served in the military and lived the lifestyle, he did an injustice to the role of a "Captain," period. I have never been a fan of recasting roles but I'd make an exception for Channing Tatum as Duke. Ed Norton isn't an option.
