He wasn't THAT bad. He had a few terrible lines but I don't think his general performace was really all that horrible. It was rather tolerable.
Plus, he ain't too bad to look at <_<

BEGIN JOKE Well I would expect that reaction....from The Baroness! END JOkE Footnote: This post is a joke because in the movie, GI Joe: The Rise of Cobra, the Baroness is the love interest for Duke played by Channing Tatum. Last edited by sharky; 08-22-2009 at 01:37 AM.. |

I watched the movie almost a week ago and I have to admit that I didn't like the actors and actresses performances at all. The lines that were written for them are so chessy and unfunny when the plot required an x scene to be the other way. Of all the acting the least I liked whas that from Tatum and the guy who played Rex/Doctor/CC. Too uncharismatic and over the top respectively.

Yeah he pretty much ruins it. When he says "Attention" I was like that was the worst line ever in a movie. Ever! The Baroness love triangle was weak but worked in this movie. Duke being younger and an officer OK. Ripcord wayans was not so bad. But Tatum should have been someone else. like maybe Hardball.

to me in this movie Duke didnt have the leadership capabilities its like this is his first command instead of being an experienced officer.

He was the only downside of the movie for me. I went in with such low expectations that I was surprised at how well I liked the rest of it.

I would say "hate" is a strong word. I could have lived without him, and his "I'm gonna get you outta here" line felt very fake/forced...but overall he did an "ok" job...barely passes with about a 62% in my book

I've avoided wading into this discussion, but I saw it again last night...
I dunno - I quite liked him. Whether it was a consequence of acting or the lack thereof, Duke came across as a man who had trouble with emotions, almost in an inexperienced way. Now I found that OK in the movie. The much criticised funeral scene seems to work well this way - Duke has trouble dealing with any emotion here - something I think is consistent with how it's written later. He's certainly not bland or impassive in this scene - he's just not showing much on the surface. I should interject that I'm a Brit, and as such his 'ghetto' accent just sounds like quite a cool contemporary American one to me - in the same way that some of you may struggle with Geordie, Mancunian, Liverpudlian and Birmingham accents, I'm less used to US accents. So I didn't mind that. I thought overall that Duke was OK. The only two that really grated, performance wise, were Quaid and Pryce. At least Tatum's performance wasn't a pantomime performance - Quaid was distractingly bad - cliche driven (though I 'accept' it as a man acting for an 8 year old audience) - whilst Pryce rather outshadows Eccles as 'actor with the worst accent'. He just can't do an American accent whatsoever (and in fact gives up half way through). Last edited by babyjelly; 08-23-2009 at 06:43 AM.. |
