125 million was the budget of the movie.
I work for an advertising design company an print ( we actually printed damn near all the posters, standees, etc..etc...) { wasn't worth losing my job over about posting them prelaunch sorry guys} ~Anyway, there film budget was 125 million, there advertising budget was around 50 million ( a lil less maybe 40 million), that puts the whole number around 175 million, so the movie needs to box office at least 1/2 that to 2/3's to be considered a great success,1/3 is generally a lite success or a flop. Now with rentals, dvds, merchandise ,games etc.etc.. hasbro itself is making BANK! PAramount will break even no matter what, an most likely will pull profit: especially once it hits foreign shores ( international hero) so all in all it sounds like a sequel is plausible

I have to admit, my wife and I were part of that 22.5 million. I didn't want to like it but I have to say...wow, I was impressed as was the misses. If sequel is in order a few things need to be addressed. I paid $20 last night so I get to say my peace.....
1) Cobra Commanders mask is ridiculous, even my wife says that it should be more like the old school one or even the hood would be an improvement and she really could care less about such things but man that mask at the end was a flop compared to the build up of the character which was GREAT! The new origin story and the Dr was a great and fresh idea but that helmet.... uuuuuhhhgggggg. 2) Isn't anyone else put off by the guy who plays Storm Shadow? I mean hes so obviously KOREAN!!!! Do NOT get me wrong, I liked the guy and I thought his acting was killer for a new SS and he fleshed out the character really well but the only thing wrong is Hollywood thinks we are such a bunch of stupid sheep we think all Asians look the same and it was clear as day that he wasn't Japanese. I know he most likely isn't in the next one but its just my biggest problem with the movie and I needed to vent to someone who won't look at me strange. 3) My wife asks that in the next installment that Snake Eyes does NOT have molded lips. She thought I was a winy baby leading up to the movie about this but she walked out at the end and kept saying whoever came up with that should be bitch slapped a few times. Batman's nipples....all I have to say. 4)Love triangle and back stories. Please just stick to the comics as it works. Destro's seemed top be spot on and it was great, the SS and SE back story was WEAK as it looked like they only knew each other for a few months. My friend hit me with a golf club in the head when we were 11 but I don't have a vendetta against him..... it worked SO much better encapsulated in Resolute. And for crying out loud the Duke-Baroness-Rex triangle is ridiculous to say the least. Duke-Rex, sure I can buy that and it builds the CC character a bit stronger on the "hows" and "whys", but Baroness.... she is the Baroness not a blond ex-girlfriend. A great point I want to be known incase anyone from the movie actually reads this forum, I have to say though that the Vipers especially the Commandos in the beginning night scene were FREAKY as sh&t and I loved that! Those bad a$$ mothers are today's Vipers all the way and kick the sh%t out of any clone, any day. I was hoping to see more of a variety like Ice Vipers, Crimsons and more Joes but I see a sequel on the horizon so let's all cross our fingers. Bring it on, Yo Joe!

Not to get into a pissing match will you, but I did read it.
"Industry analysts forecast that Transformers toy-related sales, including licensing fees, could be as high as $600 million by year's end" It is a prediction but, the signs are already there. Maybe Canadian sales are slow, but the US market seems to be eating these up even before the movie dropped.

True enough, but when CLEARANCE shelf talkers are under toys in a toy department it's definitely a clearance, not a sale. I'll drop by my local TRU tomorrow and snap some camera pix to show you guys what I'm talking about. Assuming there's any product left haha!

Genuine "clearance" is when a product is being pushed out of the inventory altogether. If your stores are still getting restocks of RoC product next week or the week after...it wasn't really a clearance. PS: Did you actually look closely and see if the "clearance" stickers are actually for RoC product? We've got a lot of clearance stickers at my local TRU, too...but they don't always match up with the product that's on the shelf above them. Last edited by Jmacq1; 08-08-2009 at 09:27 PM.. |

Lol, toy prices in Canada as an indicator of box office performance in America.
ROC toys came out here (USA) unofficially on July 4th, then officially on the 11th. TRU ran their "buy one figure, get one free" promotion for one week, and hasn't had sale or reduced prices since. Target initially had the figures at $7.99, then most of their stores went to $6.99. Walmart's had them at $7.88 consistently since they came out. Comparatively, Revenge of the Fallen toys have had several sale promotions at each of the above mentioned chains. I believe all 3 stores had the Deluxe & Voyager class toys on sale the 2nd week after their release, as well as after the movie's release. And as we all know, Transformers 2 was a worldwide box-office disaster, right? Oh, wait.. nevermind. |

from the-numbers.com
but it could get off to a $50 million start over the next three days and $125 million in total. That would be a great run for most movies given this time of the year, but for a film that cost $170 million to make, that won't be enough, unless it makes a huge amount internationally. |

I'm not sure if this has been mentioned yet or not, but it may be hard to speculate on box office numbers in this economy. People are spending less on every thing and from what I hear entertainment and dining are taking the biggest hits. A lot more people than usual may be planning to buy a $5.00 bootleg off the street or download it for free. (please do not freak out I didn't say I was planning to do that, I'm going tomorrow) I am not an economist though, so I could be completely off base on this, I'm positive someone will be sure to let me know if I am.
