Okay being a GI JOE movie I give it a solid 10 out of 10. Whats not to like...... I got to see Duke, Storm Shadow, Snake-eyes and the gang on the big screen. My childhood dreamed fulfilled!
Now as a movie I give it a 4 (out of 10) at best...... and only a 4 cause they used GI JOE characters. Outside of that there was no coherent plot and or explanation to anything. There was absolutely no character development and some of the worst Special effects on screen to date. I can go into a mindless popcorn film and check my brain at the door to some extent but this film was asking for a lot. Who was this film marketed at? I would never take a child under 12-13 to see this. So from a former Rise of Cobra (who only rose to power and maintained it for like 3 minutes) supporter I am now an official Hater of the film. In my defense I hate bad films. I loved The Godfather parts one and two but hate part three...why caue like I said..... I hate crappy films. |

I too was a hater...I'll admit it. I hated the idea of a Wayons brother as Rip, I hated the idea of Breaker being not from the South, I hated the idea of not having all the old familiar stuff I know and come to realize as normal Joe Universe stuff changing.
But I liked the movie a lot. Pros: 1) Kick ass blowshit up action 2) Plot that kept non-Joe fans guessig...come on, you knew about Zartan right? 3) Ninjas ARE cool, very cool. 4) Open for many sequels 5) Ms. Miller....need I say more? Cons: 1) The "origin" material with Duke and Rex totally F's up any Marvel continuity from the word one. 2) Heavy Duty sounded like a large french whore when talking 3) Botched up the SE/SS origins story line big time for me. 4) They killed Cover Girl...gay 5) Destro...just dont care for the actor or how he was protrayed. But again...former hater...liked it, not loved it. Doc

I was expecting to hate it, but actually really enjoyed it. Marlon Wayans as Ripcord really sucked though. I cringed every time he opened his mouth.

i was trying to keep an honest open mind about this movie, with joe being such a big part of my life in the early 80s. could not help but think it was going to be a charlies angels piece of crap with people flying thru the air and a bunch of impossible moves. i was pleasantly surprised with the first 2 3rds of the movie. the battle under water was just to much for me. to stars wars like. i wanted to shout out "watch out for the goober fish" ,you had all the sharks and mars subs and the big cannon that had to be charged to fire. to sci fi. gi joe was to me about the characters and the vehicles but this part of the movie almost killed it for me. loved snake eyes, ray park did a good job, general hawk a bit of a let down, duke and rip cord was fine, destro was ok but not my idea of the character, stormy was good (to bad they killed off) heavy duty, eh shouldve been roadblock, scarlett would never need consouling after losing a fight she always seemed to me she would come back and kick serious ass later on, they made her a little bit of a softy. baroness, like miller but not the story of her and duke all though it was different for the joe story. really disliked the excelerator suits they could have used some other vehicle sort, but i understand they have to play to the kids but to much. couldve been better but this is far from a perfect world. after all it is better than nothing which i said after episode 1

I liked the movie but I don't see why they can't do both lines, the packaging is different. And on top of that Transformers has 3 lines out, Universe, Movie and Animated. They could easily do both, and who cares if it confuses anyone, more sales then.

i admit i expect more when i watch a film. i also have to accept that some of the worst aspects of storytelling will be utilized in modern films, and scripts will be written to appease the audience and make more money. the are very few films i've seen that i love through and through. this list includes;
-fear and loathing in las vegas -ronin -children of men -the band of brothers mini series -28 days later -the good, the bad and the ugly -black hawk down -the life aquatic with steve zissou -ghost world -cold comfort farm -jaws -fight club -alien -aliens -the nightmare before christmas -ed wood -the lord of the rings trilogy -outpost -the andromeda strain (original) -doomsday -hot rod and there are probably a couple of others, but it gets harder and harder to accept the scholck that comes out of hollywood these days. and it's doubly frustrating because the capabilities the studios possess are infinitely more capable to do so many amazing things now than they were even 10 years ago. there's a limitless source of information available from anywhere across the globe on the internet. and a bevy of talented actors and actresses OUTSIDE of hollywood who will work for far less than any worthless big name star. but this is what we get. time and time again. only this time it's with the biggest part of my childhood. and for those who still think my beef is with the changes made, that's not it at all. watchmen was virtually a panel by panel interpretation of the comic book, and the movie still was god-awful. on the other hand, i really enjoyed the hellboy films, which are a pretty vast departure from the comics. good movies are still watchable movies. this had me simultaneously cringing and laughing sarcastically all the way through.
