I stated before.... Do not go in to the film looking for origins to be like the originals. It isn't ARAH and it's not Resolute. It's something different. Accept change.[/QUOTE] I agree and i think anyone who is hell bent on not understanding this change is simply delusional. This is not 1980!!!! An 80's version would HAVE NEVER WORKED! I guarantee it woulda flopped. This was created for fans old and new, NOT fanboys! Some of you are just really annoying that you wanna fit 80's shit into 2009. That makes no sense whatsover! The joe verse has too much going on for that to work. I wish some of you would just stay off the boards and go love on Your DIC (Joes) instead of coming on here and crying about nonsense. Seriously get a clue. Last edited by dj7000; 08-09-2009 at 07:40 AM.. |

I've seen it. I won't say how but I didn't have to give up my money to see it. You can figure out for yourself how.
Bottom line is, the movie verified in my mind that the screenplay draft I read was pretty darn accurate. It was NOT a bogus version screenplay. It was the real deal. That being said, all the problems I had over the last year still stand even after I've seen the movie. Spoiler Warning. Don't say I didn't tell you. 1) Ripcord should NOT be Scarlett's love interest. It SHOULD be Snake-Eyes. Even if the movie makers decided to go the cartoon route & play with the idea of Duke liking her, I would have at least understood where the idea came from. But the bogus-version-Ripcord?! No. No, no, no, no & no. 2) Ripcord was always a white guy (I think with read hair). His name was NOT Specialist Altitude or whatever bogus name they're trying to give him now. So Marlon Wayans could have played any number of the cool black guy Joes that have existed in the Joe team's 27-year+ history. Or even make up a new character for Marlon Wayans to be. But overwrite Ripcord? No. 3) Duke was never engaged to the Baroness. 4) Baroness & Cobra Commander were never siblings. 5) Cobra Commander & Duke were never friends. 6) Hard Master's death DID NOT happen when Storm Shadow was a little boy. It happened later. 7) Storm Shadow COULD NOT outdo Snake-Eyes with swords. With a bow & arrows, yes. But not with swords. Some may argue that Snake-Eyes failed to gain the upper hand against Storm Shadow at least once in the Devil's Due comic books during a sword-fight but I would argue that Storm Shadow was not himself. He was under the influence of CC's brainwave scanner technology. [That and the issue wasn't written by Larry Hama. But, oh well.] One nice thing I WILL say about this movie is that I liked the metal (shiny silver) tonfas that Snake-Eyes used against Storm Shadow. However, Snake-Eyes should always be "the man" when it comes to edged weapons. 8) This movie did not give me the sense that Storm Shadow & Snake-Eyes were friends or even that they were close. It only showed that they fought a lot as kids. For all the audience knows, they hated each other all their lives. Lame. Larry Hama built them up to be close friends. Like brothers. They served the Army in Vietnam together, with Stalker. In the movie, I didn't care when Storm Shadow "died". As the movie built the character, he was just another bad guy. I could go on but, the bottom line is, the stuff I hated about this movie BEFORE seeing it, I still hate. It's still there in the film. Oh, I lied. Just one more. 9) I STILL hate Storm Shadow's costume. Damn. It just didn't look right. And it didn't look conducive toward moving in a fight. I think Byung-Hun Lee did a better job of playing SS than I expected. [I still say Kane Kosugi would be a better Storm Shadow, though.] The fact that Lee is Korean & not Japanese American bothers the crap out of me. I hate the movie. But I still love G.I.Joe. I've been a fan of G.I.Joe since 1983 and probably always will be a fan. But I'm not a fan of this movie. I'm hoping for a reboot but, sadly, am pretty sure we won't get one. |

i tried to stay away from as much info as i could prior to the film to keep an objective perspective when i finally did see the film. pretty hard seeing i'm on this site daily, so i did know some things about what i was going to see. and i didn't like 95% of that, but i still wanted to give the movie a fair chance. i did yesterday.
and it was one of the worst films i've seen in a long time. first off, the whole thing felt like a straight-to-dvd release circa 1999. it just didn't feel like "somewhere in the near future". second, the entire film had no flow to it - all the backstory information was forced into it in a disruptive manner. the dialogue was on par for most '80's action films (is that what they were aiming for since this was based on an '80's action toy?), and the acting was incredibly hammy. dennis quaid was the worst, and channing tatum was right behind him. the cgi was second rate. the paris pursuit action sequence made me feel like i was watching crappy cartoon. the underwater battle sequence made me feel like i was watching return of the jedi again. snake eyes rubber mask was unnecessarily distracting. the elevator descent in the pit was total cornballery. the childhood battle between snake eyes and storm shadow was ridiculous. the biggest slap in the face, however, was the whole duke/baroness love story. it pissed me off and made my girlfriend want to throw up. what did i like? i liked the nanomite storyline, and admittedly, the cgi used to illustrate them was decent. the portrayals of scarlett, heavy duty, breaker, snake eyes and storm shadow were decent. i didn't mind marlon wayans as much as i thought i would; he was actually okay. my girlfriend like destro here (except for the "lovely lady of the lake" line), but i'm still trying to decide my opinion. his acting wasn't bad, i just don't see him as destro. for those of you who grew up with the cartoons, and those of you who only had the toys, i can see you enjoying this movie a lot more than someone like me, who grew up with the toys and the marvel comic series. i watched the mass device on tv, but that was all that was ever on tv out my way (my parents still don't have cable). i've been a fan of arah since 1982 when i got my first figure (short-fuze) and read the first issue of the comic. i wasn't expecting this movie to be anything like arah, but i was expecting it to at least be decently entertaining. i thought it was just a terrible movie. which is on par for all the other stephen sommers films i've seen. how this guy keeps getting work, i'll never know. sadly disappointed. and with zartan as president, i'm sure we'll get an equally dismal sequel, unless this movie comes in way under expectation, or unless hasbro starts cracking the whip over at paramount. i just can't believe we got this with larry hama as a consultant. been a fan of the series for 20 years, never stopped collecting and i was excited to hear about the movie until i heard that the director of the mummy was ddoing it.. tragic choice, could have been a worse choice, the guy that directed house of the dead. acting was fine with me, different choices eh im fine with. my issues came with the storyline. i dont expect a movie to stay exact for the comics/tv show, but alot of this was just wrong in my opinion.
i carried my girlfriend and she doesnt know anything about G.I. Joe, she sees my collection and my hunts for rarities, but she doesnt pay any mind, shes seen 5 minutes worth of the cartoon tops, she liked it, said the story was weak but she liked the movie overall. lets hope the next one brings us a classic tale or resolute, maybe be like the punisher movie where none of them are connected except the name Punisher & Frank Castle ah and the finale, dont want to spoil it for anyone, but it seemed find of a rip off of Metal Gear Solid in a way. man in the office.... come on Last edited by thecalm_7; 08-09-2009 at 08:45 AM.. |

I am sure you and I will have a lot of fun at Joe Con. However, at one point in our trip I will exact revenge upon you. You won't know the moment it is coming... but when it does... you will know. I loved it, and I llook at it this way, we just got a new JOE universe. Just like we got when they released Sigma 6 and Resolute. Think of this as the Ultimates version of Joe.
