(This is not a review of the ROC movie. I just wanted to write a message to all who may read this, a message of wonder an happieness.)
I remember when I got my first ARAH GI Joe figure in 1982, I can remember my excitement when I watched my very first ARAH GI Joe cartoon on TV “The Mass Device” and I can recall with fondness when I read GI Joe issue #1. I have many memories associated with GI Joe and all of them are moments of joy and happiness. That is why I collect today; I collect because it reminds me of those happy days of my youth. It is those memories that keep my spending money on little plastic army men. Well this evening my two nephews and I went to see the ROC movie and while I saw flaws and problems my two little friends sitting with me did not. In their eyes I saw the same joy I felt when I saw the Sky Striker Jets streak across a blue white animated sky on my families console TV. I remember watching in awe as the forces of Cobra led by Major Bludd, waged a battle on the GI Joe airfield where the Strikers where being kept. We where planning on going to see the movie tomorrow but they convinced me to take them tonight. Well when the movie ended we went over to Pizza Pan for some good cheap take home pizza. They are in the other room playing with my ROC toys while I type this message. I can hear them laugh and joke, they have not stopped talking about the movie since we left the theater. I don’t know how many of you remember those days when we where like them, when GI Joe was new and alive in our imaginations. I remember those days and I get to relive them each time I open up a new figure or re-read an old issue of GI Joe comics. The movie isn’t great, it isn’t perfect and it sure isn’t bad either. I can hear just how good it is not in others reviews or opinions but in the sounds of joy coming from inside my home as they laugh. Those two boys in there saw what I saw back in the early 1980’s. They have been hooked by the very same thing that hooked me and right now in their eyes I see just how well that silly movie worked. Just put a copy of "The Mass Device" episodes into your DVD player and see how it looks now. We have all grown up and because of that, we will see the flaws and silliness that we over looked in our youth. I wish all of you could hear what I hear now, GI Joe is not dead, it lives on in the generation that is just growing up today. I am going to stop writing for now. I have a couple of kids who are calling for me to get of the computer and come play with them. So as I take my half eaten slice of pizza in hand I will talk to you all later, for now Cobra Commander needs to go whoop on some Joes. Do yourself a favor my friends, get a few young children and take them to see this film and try to see it through their eyes. Relive the joy of your youth through others eyes and try to remember to be a kid again, even if it is just for one night. Lots of love Samantha

Very well put Sam. Great reminder to us all of why and how we got hooked on these little plastic men.
The first thing I heard walking out of the theater was an 8/9 year old boy turn to his dad and go "THAT WAS AWESOME!!". And that was why RoC was made.

I had a HORRIBLE day at work today and saw RoC to calm down. I really liked it and the kids actually watched it around me with no noise! I, too, can see the renewed love for Joe's.
Thank you Hasbro and Sommers. |

You should have seen the tear in my eye when the five year old next to me looked up and told his father that the love story seemed tacked on and that the dialog didn't offer much flavor.
