My 6 year old son & 9 year old daughter are crazed to see this movie. They both love the ROC toy line. So I am excited to see it again with my kids.
Over all a good year to be a Joe fan, ROC & RESOLUTE…

I'm glad that some people liked the movie. I was very disappointed in it personally, but as long as G.I. Joe continues in some form, then that's not a bad thing. I'll stick with Marvel comics for the true ARAH story, I'll watch the cartoons for some classic camp, and I'll collect the figures. But I doubt I'll ever watch this film again.

I have to admit I teared up while reading this... I was 50/50 on the film, but the more I think about it I like more than I hate. I was mad in the late 80s and all through the 90s with what GI Joe had become. I quit buying them and playing with them. I remember when Extreme was released and I saw the the neighbor kids playing with them outside and asked what they were playing with and they said Gijoes. I had to laugh then I should them the Joes of my Childhood. There extreme figures were quickly replaced with the TRU exclusive re-issues.
I hope this is how its going to be with this gen Joe kids. I hope they look at the past and see what GIJOE really means. I hope the ARAH is looked at with new love and respect. So far I think the movie is going to do its job. |

Great post!! I went to see it in the "Director's Hall" this morning with 4 other fanboys & 1 non-fangirl. The girl had so much fun while seeing GI Joe for the 1st time. And while the rest of us voiced what we liked & didn't like, & compared it with our 25+ years with the brand, she just sat there in glee wondering what this rich history was, as the movie, just established a new history & interest in the franchise for her.

I have to say as a fan of the comics I really did not think the movie looked good. As the time approached my kids started really getting into it ages 5 and 2. My oldest said your old gijoes are boring dad when I gave some to him. As we walked thru target and found the roc figs he said those are awesome I want to get gijoes now dad instead of bakugan and transformers I was the happiest parent alive. After seeing the movie with my kids, with the youngest yelling cobraaa!!!! and the names of characters as they appeared on screen, with a tear in my eye and great pride I realized that hasbro at least knows how to market to their target audience. I think we as collectors fail to realize we do not buy the bulk of toys that are successful. I now do. I also really enjoyed the movie and felt the movie really caught the essence of joe with big mega battles in different locals and memorable characters. The changes to great stories and characters are not for the most part my favorite thing I do understand how this new gen. may not understand pyramid schemes and cults as well as mine since they are not as common today.
