Random thoughts: Loved the acting. I was only underwhelmed by Tatum and Nichols, but they weren't awful or anything. Breaker was perfect somehow, despite being utterly unlike any previous Breaker. I think I wanted JGL to go just a little father over the top, and Eccleston to just be a little more dignified.
Lee Byung Hun? Fantastic. So was Ray Park (except for those freaking lips.) It's funny how the movie basically switched Storm Shadow and Baroness--now Stormy is the ruthless one and Baroness is the conflicted one. Snake Eyes being mute because he took a "vow of silence" is terrible, of course. The Ninja Babies flashback was hilarious. Wayans was surprisingly great. He has the Shipwreck role: comic relief plus horniness plus saving the day. Though I could feel the air leaking out of the movie with that pointless "I didn't want anyone to see me like this" scene with him and Scarlett. Underwhelmed by the Flash Gordonesque Neo-Viper outfits. Rex needs a much better mask in the sequel. And less of a Dr Claw voice when he puts it on. Overall I voted on the fence. There was just a little something missing--not sure what. Possibly I just didn't like the flavor since I'm so used to the Sunbow and Hama versions (for reference I've never really liked the current comics either, they suffer tonally from the same thing RoC does, trying to mush two wildly divergent properties--the Sunbow stuff and the Marvel stuff--into a single entity.) So I may like it less or more upon rewatching. Oh, and was there really no credit for Larry Hama, or did I miss it? It's pretty disappointing if there wasn't one. |

So you want us to accept your opinion as gospel yet you bash others opinions? Ok. Got it.

I saw the movie today and have to say that it was awsome! Lots of action, lots of explosions, and the Paris chase scene was great. Some of these critics don't know squat! To me, it's the fans and the people that watch the movies that are the real critics. Can't wait to see if they do a second one and what it will be about.

Still, unlike the atrocious Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen, which was just a random assemblage of footage that few reasonable people could enjoy, G.I. Joe is not a fraudulent entertainment. It arrives at the court of 11-year-old public opinion fully prepared and confident in its wares, with a handful of expensive, ass-kicking set pieces and exposition filler that's designed to float by as painlessly as possible—nothing more. Knowing that going in is, well, half the battle.
G.I. Joe: The Rise of Cobra | Film Review | Slant Magazine And I love that last paragraph. Like or dislike RoC, at least it wasn't directed by Michael Bay. It's a legit entertainment. |

i voted on the fence, there was enough GI JOE in the movie to get me by, but i just got done watching the season 1.1 dvd set so a lot of stuff in the movie got on my nerves. could have done without ripcord flirting with scarlet(come on duke or snake eyes
duke is not a captain didnt like the duke baroness story line baroness legs are way to skinny, need to take here to grandma's to eat some good sourthern food. snake eyes mask with the mouth please remove for gijoe 2 cobra cammander story sucked and his mask and voice at the end, big fail to many troops being killed, a good random escape before exploding would have been good. ripcord is not a main joe, should have been roadblock, alpine, most likely stalker. It was kinda like the people involved just went off what they remembered from being a kid. instead of taking a joe refresher course before writing this movie. But it was watchable and fun for the most part. and it does make me want to go buy a new night raven now. |
