I am probably going to be in the minority here, but I thought the movie was about a 4 out of 10... It reminded me of a cheesy made-for-Sci-Fi Channel movie. The acting was so-so, the CG animation got on my nerves, and the overly drawn out Paris pursuit was ridiculous... Every Joe and Cobra would have died in the streets during that debacle (sorry if this is a spoiler, but a train slamming into a H2 Hummer... train wins, H2=coffin for all inside). I understand the need for action sequences in movies of this nature, but this wasn't a super-hero movie, and should not have been treated as such. So far as acting, I will agree that Sienna Miller was good as the Baroness, and I liked Scarlett, Snake-Eyes (with the exception of the PP scene on top of and beneath the H2), and Storm Shadow for the most part. However, I did not care for Channing Tatum's Duke, Marlon Wayons' Rip Cord, Dennis Quaid's General Hawk, nor Arnold Vosloo as Zartan (although the character didn't get much to do other than sit around whisling). Heck, this movie was almost as much of a disappointment as Star Wars Episode I, another movie that Ray Park's character was a bright spot in...
On a side note, if at the end of the movie, Ripcord had been eaten by the Nanos, it would have almost saved the movie for me, but I knew that wasn't going to happen... ;)

Well I have always been a proponent of the idea the movie will suck as a GI JOE movie, I never said that it was going to fail at the box office! pure curiosity will draw a big enough crowd to make it a success box office wise. So betting the movie will succeed is like betting Mike Tyson would win a fight with Andy Dick! I am more than confident that it will be entertaining. I always enjoy a good sci fi/action movie and from the early reviews this movie has a lot of both! It's how this movie will stand up to our 20+ years of expectation as Joe fans that I am mostly concerned with. While many are willing to accept the compromised characters and backgrounds, I fall into the catagory of not so easy to please! With that said I'm off to see ROC in one hour!

not doing yourself any favors here.
again, ROTF says hi. clearly opinion doesn't necessarily correlate to performance if interest in the movie is high enough. if this movie doesn't do well, it will have to do with more than just reviews. logic and analytical ability would allow you to see such things. try it, like I said, it is rewarding.

I said on the fence. Typical Libra response.
I liked some parts of it.
I hated others.
A blonde American "Baroness" married to Duke brainwashed by microscopic robots in her brain to make her evil!?
Execrable. Three times ass.

Again ROTF, bad comparisson, sequal to a movie that did well at the begining of the summer makith not a comparison to Joe.
Just because the bro is behind both don't mean squat.
Besides the average public is much more excited about Giant Robots done by Michael Bay, than nanomites done by Steve Sommers.

My 8 year old and I just watched it. I really enjoyed it. It wasn't perfect but it was a lot of fun. More importantly, my son LOVED it. All he talked about the whole way home was wanting buying a ton a Joes.
So many people are listening to what others are saying to form their opinion. Stop being sheep, go see it, form your own opinion. And all the QQing about the storyline...how many comic book, cartoon, etc movies follow the original story exactly? Very few, if any.
Again, I enjoyed it. Funny how I did not enjoy any of the Mummy movies though, lol.

GuslingerCbr, I'm very sorry man but you come off as really hostile. Why do you challenge this other poster like you do? You're seriously talking down to him and it only makes you look bad. I hate to interject like this, but I wonder if you could leave the personal insults out?

OK, I'm a huge fan of the comics/cartoon, I have them all and they are a big part of what got me into collecting comics/toys. So now that you all know how biased I am here's my review:
I was bummed that the movie was a complete reboot of the origin of G.I.Joe. There are a couple of lines from the toon, and a few elements from the comics, and that's it. Character's origins/designs have been changed, some radically so. So was that a bad thing? I didn't cringe at anything, (other than Snake-Eye's creepy mask with molded lips, and the way they kept calling him "Snake" throughout the whole flick) but I don't get why they didn't just adapt the comics because what the movie did wasn't better imo, just different.
The movie was nearly straight action from start to finish, with a plot that could have come straight from the toon, which I thought was cool. How this movie escaped an R rating is beyond me, as this is the hardest PG-13 I've ever seen, meaning expect to see Vipers being killed in lots of different ways. There was an awkward break after the PITT battle that killed the momentum for me between Scarlett/Ripcord where they tried to interject a bit of character development/romance, but other than that the movie had a nice flow, and was peppered with flashbacks to fill out the character's backstories/origins. The humor was surprisingly limited to one-liners from Ripcord and nothing was terribly cheezy, so that was a relief for me after having to suffer through TF2's juvenile comedy. I was glad to see that Cobra Commander was played as a badass without any flamboyant theatrics. The CG was not as polished as I would like, decent but nothing that wowed me. It seemed like they cut corners by having things appear too dark in several places, most notably the underwater battle. The acting was so-so, Duke's was particularly wooden. He seemed like a poor mans' Marky Mark.
There are a ton of parallels between this flick and Star Wars, so have fun picking them all out. The ending sets things up for a sequel, but I have my doubts that this is going to do enough at the box office to justify one, since they reportedly spent $170 million on it. I would recommend any fan of popcorn flicks/G.I. Joe check it out on the big screen to judge for themselves. Bottom line: The movie did not make me want to go out and buy the toys. 3/5 stars, as a Joe fan I was disappointed, but as a popcorn fan I was entertained.
