Eff what everybody else said...I really enjoyed this movie. It wasn't perfect or anything but it was fun to watch. I can't wait to see it again. Even more so...my kid LOVED it.

Ok really the fact that there is an ongoing discussion about if this movie destroyed someone's childhood says loads about this movie...

I think it says more about the childhood in question.

I just saw it with my son. It's really good in parts and totally ridiculous in others. The action was great and it moved along really quickly for the most part, but it seemed to start coming apart after the Paris accelerator suit scene (the underwater stuff didn't do much for me, but the base was cool).
Scarlett was done really well, Tatum as Duke was okay, Wayans was okay as Ripcord and Quaid seemed to be hamming it up as General Hawk. JGL as CC was kind of "meh" since he didn't really do anything. Eccelson would have been cooler as Destro if he had the mask for more than 30 seconds. Sienna Miller looked fantastic as Baroness and was great when she wasn't having flashbacks or being sympathetic. Storm Shadow and Snake Eyes were done properly at least. It was silly in a good way most of the time (like the show), but the melodramatic story elements were just too "daytime TV" for me. The cartoon was more believable. The worst was the whole Baroness & Duke thing and all of the flashbacks. I don't like that she was just a victim. The plot conveniences were a stretch too (Duke, Rex and the Baroness). I nearly expected Ripcord to be Destro's long lost son by the end! Every time the plot was really moving forward we got another flashback reminding us how interconnected everyone was which was both distracting and eye rolling. The explanation why and how Rex became CC seemed tacked on (like the writer just watched SW Episode III and decided to copy it), but at least he was no victim. The ending was way too quick too (once CC and Destro are actually seen)! The CC costume actually looked okay on screen for the very brief time it was actually shown. Still, there is no reason why they couldn't have just used the classic chrome mask for that last minute or two as there was already a costume change made. It would have had fans giddy at that point! Despite all this there were many things that felt "Joe". The nanomite weapon seemed like a modern day MASS device (which if I remember was used on the Eiffel Tower too). A lot of the gadgets were cool and I really liked the first action scene when the Vipers and the Baroness first attempt to take the weapon. I see more promise in a sequel since they got a lot of the lame character backgrounds/changes out of the way and can show the Cobra organization as it should be. I think they should add Flint and Lady Jaye to the next one since Heavy Duty and Breaker didn't do much for me. Scarlett was the only Joe that felt authentic. I'd also like to see Gung-Ho or Shipwreck added to the Joes and Firefly on the Cobra side. I'd give it a 6 1/2 out of 10 (I'd have given another point if they had used the chrome CC mask!)
