i'm a detractor...i'll admit it...but i didn't go in wanting the movie to suck...i truly wanted to be proven wrong...and fortunately on some fronts...i was proven very wrong...
good stuff first... GOODSTUFF blunt's scarlet...she is not the definitive scarlet for me...zartan was a total bad ass (him throwing the mind control piece out was brilliant)...even in a short time while on the screen zartan became my favorite roc person...storm shadow...perfect...his outfits were SMOOTH...those 3 actors nailed their characters......ray park, was ray park...i expected him to be good...except for the lips... my fiancee even said..."if he doesn't speak...why does his mask have lips...it looks strange..." i'll give sienna miller her due...she was a good baroness...she handled the action well...she was pretty bad ass too...i understand that the terrible back story was the reason she "had" speak like an american...she did a very good job...except during the end...more on that later... my fiancee said..."she walks in snow in 4 inch heels...she is badass..." the military action...i really liked it...i wanted more...i can understand the vipers taking bullets to the chest and not falling down...but grenades thrown less than 1 foot away?? and not even a flinch!!!!!! i guess physics only exist when shooting people with baroness's hand gun...then vipers fly 50 feet... the cast actually was pretty decent...i won't say solid...but they didn't make fools out of themselves...which i really appreciate...except CC...i'll get the that later... covergirl's death...(i wanted to scream death by stereo!! but it was actually a lap top) zartan is the sh*t i can't say this enough...i love how both storm shadow and zartan serve the same purposes, but go about it in different ways...all of the cobra leadership were pretty great...except for a certain commander...i'll get on that later... it didn't feel crude or like they went for cheap laughs (cough transformers cough) i appreciate that...the laughs were genuine... the dennis quaid smile...no matter if it's breaking away...enemy mine...or gi joe the movie...his "we won" grin rules.... the flagg...that rocked...looked bad digitally, but rocked none the less... THE BAD: this film really had me going...the first 2 acts built well (except for the flashbacks) i was genuinely smiling big at points in the film...even got chills...it felt joe...i'll admit that...it had it's own identity...then the 3rd act hit...terrible...it's as if the writer just said screw this...i'm tired of writing...someone grab me star wars scripts we are cutting and pasting! hoth base...check!!! gungan city!!! check...canned lucas star wars space battle voice overs...check!!! darth cobra commander vader!!! darth maul storm shadow!!!! check!!! it was a complete and utter mess...darth CC was horrible and completely ridiculous...he reminded me of rick moranis in space balls, but not in a good way....and the explanation of how darth CC took over...even dumber...the newly christened destro's acting was mind numbingly bad...the nanomite battling for love baroness's acting was even worse...hasbro may not have raped my childhood, but CC didn't get off as lucky... the nods...terrible...they all felt forced...like "product placement"...i was waiting them to look into the camera and wink after they said the line...heavy duty's "yo joe" is the only one that felt natural....and that was during that terrible star wars ending... duke...his guy is wooden as a human being can be...he only has one facial expression like greg oden... NITPICKING i can see duke...it's an actual "nickname" but why is wallace weems named ripcord from jump??? he is a random soldier...shouldn't he get a code name after he joins the joe team... accelerator suits...i hated them...i understood their use as a set piece in the pursuit of paris chase...but why not wear them all the time on every mission??? every joe would have snake eyes ability...that's why i don't think they belong...it turns gi joe into transformers or robocop...doesn't make them unique "soldiers"... the flash backs...kill the flow of the story...the brother sister /romance back story stunk... no usa flag in sight...i think the fact they have distanced themselves so far from the our country is pretty f*cking pathetic...i'm a liberal and i think this...and it blows my mind how they can say..."we don't want to be patriotic and we don't want any part of the good ole usa in this film"...and not receive a backlash is beyond me...

Some Bangles isn't crap, Susana Hoffs was pretty hot (think that was her name) and Hazy Shade of Winter is a good tune.

Finished watching the film. Granted, this is not based on the comic or animated series that many of us grew up with but I look at it similar to the "Ultimate" spin that Marvel has done with their superheroes.
Enjoyed the battle scenes, enjoyed the characters and enjoyed the film. But a few things first. I asked earlier if this was a film that children could see. There were many children at the theater and I brought my six year-old. a) The injection scenes and needles are going to scare the crap out of them. b) Ending scene with McCullen will scare the kids c) There is a lot of times where s**t is being said, so if as a parent this bugs you, then definitely don't bring your young kids. I'll be a bit more thorough after I type up my review what I didn't like but for the most part, enjoyed the film. Oh, and for those who stayed while the credits were showing... did anyone catch the "Sigma 6" logo...hehe...

But again, no one is saying that in a literal sense.

You haven't been reading all the posts then? Quite a few mention kids liking it. It's also still summer, pretty sure quite a few kids went and saw it today.
Some Bangles isn't crap, Susana Hoffs was pretty hot (think that was her name) and Hazy Shade of Winter is a good tune. See we agree on somethings. Again I really wanted a good Joe movie, but this aint it! I am going to see it, and if I like it I'll admit to it and even send you a PM about my experience. But the movie is crap and kids are not a good judge of a movie, kids will enjoy anything that explodes and farts, thats a fact. |
