I guess what looked fake to me were the Apaches flying above the convoy and then when they were attacked and blown up. I think they should have used real helicopters and then 1/10 scale models for when they were blown up. The other special effects were too bad and didn't stand-out of being fake.

Probably, and a nod to the Raven resembling the jet from Firefox.

Janus you are right, I was thinking the same thing when I watched the movie.
My only beef was I didn't hear the commander say COBRA! at the end of the movie. I loved the movie better than I expected it to be. |

Never really saw that, so I couldn't tell ya. I feel there were plenty of nods to other action movies, so this theory wouldn't surprise me at all.

Going to the Hollywood midnight premiere, I was excited, yet skeptical of the film (kudos to the Arclight people having two displays of movie paraphernalia, including Arashikage swords, SS's own costume, the nanomite ammo, and others). I was prepared to be let down by all the studio tweeks throughout the production, but I was still going to see it regardless. In the end, my main complaint is the cinema of the film. The dialogue was, at times, formulaic (there were MANY times the audience was laughing out loud at bits of dialogue and scenes, specifically a military burial scene). The CGI feasts on itself, and at times is an overload. There are subplots in the film that die-hard fans will be, for a lack of a better word, disgusting. This film, overall, does NOT cater to hard-core fans completely.
However, it has its moments. If you did your homework, there are quite a number of inside Joe trivia (including the aforementioned USS Flagg and a mention of Dr. Huntkinder) in the film. There are references to the Marvel and even the Devil's Due comic run. in the end, it was just fun seeing Snake Eyes live on the big screen (I even got to meet Ray Park earlier this year at the LA Comic-Con). I came here wanting to be negative (which I still am), but I just can't. There's a laundry list of comlpaints that will inevitably grace these message boards. When my non-sycophant-of-G.I. Joe friends ask me if they should see the film, I honestly don't know how to answer them. I'll wait a few days to see what the rest of hisstank has to say. One thing, though, that I saw where the kids that were there for midnight premiere. Even if us old foaggies didn't like the film, I know they did. If the film succeeds in motivating these kids to go out for the 25th Anniversary lines or the Marvel/DDP books, then 'Yo Joe' after all. |

RAH ended almost a 15 years ago. that was when your childhood was lost. how long are people going to moan about RAH ending. maybe you guys should have bought more toys in 1992-94 if it was that important to maintain it. the movie didn't do it. the movie is just another expansion of the brand that began in 2001.
But seriously, the DD comic and the 25th toys were like a little renaisance of ARAH for us. It got us hyped. And it's why the movie is so much more disappointing for us. The movie is an expansion of the brand, fantastic! So was Resolute and IDW. But the movie is the biggest of the three expansions, and it's the only one that's hardly recognizable (in our opinion) as GI Joe. Change? Great. Making the property something completely different? Not so great. Which again, is a completely legitimate opinion. If you disagree, great, I'm all for your right to disagree. But others need to stop trashing legitimate positions.

If your childhood was ruined by this movie you must be pretty lame if all you had in your childhood was GI Joe.
