The President even has a code-name.
So Duke and Ripcord were their codenames prior to joining the RoC Joe team.

The thing about the "killed my childhood" arguement is that everything from the childhood still exists. If you dont' like RoC or Resolute or IDW, you can still go out and get the exact things you enjoyed as a child.
If anything, for me, watching the cartoon now is killing a little part of my childhood because I watch it and go "I enjoyed this crap as a child?"
And yes I did, and that enjoyment is locked safely away in my memories and will never be diminished regardless of how I feel about the cartoons now.

Now from reading larry hamas post on my face book i have heard that they had made a new ending to the movie. I think i saw this new ending last night but i cant really tell. I have read the novel, the kid novel and the comic adaptions of the film and i have beat the video game recently. They all end with the commander taking over and telling destro he is his second in command, the video game goes on to a point where the commander and destro are starting to build cobra.
So i must ask. How did your movie end. Im trying to ascertain if they have diff endings out there. Mine ended with cobra commander taking over. and then duke shows up and they are put in prison. WHAT THE FUCK????????
Gi Joe The Rise and imeadiate fall of cobra?
this cant be the ending they are showing everywhere is it.

I said I'd admit it if I was wrong about judging the film based on the content of the trailers.
I was not wrong.
The trailers were a good indication of the content of the movie.
It wasn't as unappealing as it could have been. My principle criticism as a GIJOE fanboy is that it is too far removed from what I regard as the original source material (Marvel comics and, to a lesser extent, the Sunbow animation) in characterization and aesthetics.
I've made this comment many times now and it remains the synthesis of my opinion of the film: It reminded me of a made-for-TV Sci-Fi channel action movie except with a bigger special effects budget...loosely based on GIJOE.
Characters that were true to GIJOE form even with embellishments:
Channing Tatum as Duke...blonde and bland hero archetype, this was a good match of actor to character. I loved his Southern accent, though. Fellow Alabama boy, Channing.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt as COBRA Commander...his performance was obviously inspired by the original source material even though it's more-or-less a totally different character.
General Hawk...he's a leader, that's about it.
Snake Eyes...he's a super ninja who doesn't talk. From an aesthetic perspective, however, I found his lips more distracting than Dr. Manhattan's penis.
Storm Shadow...after sleeping on it, I realize the actor portraying him did well with what he had to work with. I saw shades of the "Resolute" Storm Shadow in him. I prefer my Storm Shadow to be cold, cruel and evil rather than conflicted (which veers significantly away from what I regard as the true source material, I admit).
The actor playing the young Storm Shadow reminded me so much of Prince Tarn of Hoblok from "Red Sonja" I found all the flashbacks unintentionally hilarious.
Characters that were too far removed from the source material:
The Baroness...this character is just a character called the Baroness. She has nothing to do with the Baroness character. In this case, it hurts the film significantly from my GIJOE fanboy perspective. Blonde, American, "good" but under mind control, in love with Duke. Yuck, yuck, yuck, and yuck. Not an inspired re-invention of this character.
Ripcord: This isn't the Ripcord from the comics (where he was developed by Larry Hama and then unceremoniously dropped from a starring role probably since his action figure went out of production and they wanted Mr. Hama to focus on other characters) or the cartoon (where he was never really developed as a character anyway that I can recall). This is a totally different character that just has the name Ripcord. As such, he actually works in the role he's given. A lot of people thought Marlon Wayans would be the Jar-Jar Binks of the movie but he isn't. The moment when he gets hit by the car in the accelerator suit was the only genuine laugh the film got. Ripcord being a totally different character named Ripcord doesn't harm the film as a GIJOE story, though, the way the Baroness's differences do.
Ripcord's flirtation with Scarlett was also uninspired.
Scarlett: Re-writing her as a graduate of that school from "Real Genius" and having her talk about how emotions are not scientific, etc. was also not a particularly clever way to re-invent her character. She's a redhead with a crossbow, and that's the extent of the similarity to Scarlett.
Destro: I never approved of Christopher Eccleston's casting as Destro, not because I don't think Christopher Eccleston isn't a talented actor but because Destro should be tall with an imposing physical presence and Mr. Eccleston is short, thin and weasel-like. If there had been twin Christopher Ecclestons in this film (there's a fantasy for LaDracul) calling themselves TOMAX and XAMOT and MARS was Extensive Enterprises, then that would have been much closer to the source material as Destro's portrayal reminded me much more of the twins than the classic Destro. And the nano-mite mask/metal skin at the end looked absurd.
The fight scenes between Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were lukewarm. Their duel in Resolute was far more satisfying and thrilling.
The special effects in some scenes reminded me of a video game.
The score was not some of Alan Silvestri's best work. I think he phoned that one in.
The appearance of the characters and vehicles (particularly the Vipers) was not only not-GIJOE, but even worse, was not especially interesting. I recognize I'm not objective, but COBRA has some very stylish and unique outfits and vehicles that deserved to be represented on the screen that would have brought out oohs and ahhhs had they been part of the inspiration for the look of the movie.
As a movie in and of itself, I found it to be a mildly entertaining mediocre action film. It isn't a bad movie. It just isn't a very good one, either. C-.
As a GIJOE film, though, it does not succeed. Sigma Six was more GIJOE than ROC. It has some Joe-like elements, but then again, so do a lot of James Bond films. The presence of Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow is what pulls it as close to GIJOE as it gets.
Well, now we get to see what the rest of the world thinks of it.

Mine ended with them in prison as well. Final shot was of the assembled team in reactive armor walking in formation. Credits rolled.
