I just got in from seeing the midnight release over at the Clifton NJ AMC. First off I have to say, How the hell did you all see it before the release date? Next, if you are a diehard GI Joe fan, you will be offended by the cheesy easter eggs that Hasbro put in the film. The movie itself has a good story and lots of action scenes, the back stories are a time forced but do not always take away from the rest of the film. There are definitly going to be sequels, but Paramount should to take old footage from their Star Wars movies for ideas. Overall the film was well done and adds to a new continuity with in the GI Joe Universe. I will be seeing it again several more times.

oh, and btw- I just got back from seeing it. too tired to post a long review, but it is definitely, definitely worth seeing. The only people who will not like this movie are those too stuck in ARAHland and have had their fingers stuffed in their ears and humming the theme song to themselves as soon as they saw Marlon Wayans as Ripcord.
There's a lot of meh to the movie... There were places I thought could have kicked ass, that were just OK. For example, the action sequences should be the heart and soul. While the Paris chase was pretty bad ass (and really the only time the accelerator suits are used for those who are worried) but the underwater fight, the Pitt attack, the Humvee/Airship fight. All of those just sort of fell flat for me. Lots of ships flying out of explosions and barely clearing closing doors... While it didn't knock my socks off, my biggest concerns, were, for the most part, assuaged. Anybody whose a fan of the franchise should definitely see it. It may give a creepy look to your childhood, but it won't... oh hell, you know.

One of the only things that bothered me was the ending.
SPOILER Why capture CC and Destro? I liked it better when it was just Destro kneeling into submission. |

Just got back from seeing it. Not too happy with the route they took. I'm speechless...but I'll try to flesh out my disappointments.
The Bad -------- Destro's mask, or lack of. Baroness' ending. Storm Shadow's ending. F'n stupid. Hope it was a joke. Zartan. I thought I understood the logic to his set-up...I don't. Way too much emphasis on the tech. Too many cool toys. The vehicles. They reminded me of Star Wars The Phantom Menace. Some of the battles were too convoluted to fully enjoy. Storm Shadow's ending.(Gotta say it again) Hope its a Joke. Too much stealing ideas from other movies. G.I.Joe has a vast library of potential scenes that would make one drool if shown in all its live-action glory. Its funny, all the shit I thought I would dislike, I didn't. Ripcord was actually good in the flick. All the character race changes and accents or lack of, did not bother me. CC'c look didn't piss me off the way I thought it would. I still would like the original look rather then what we were given, but its forgivable. There's more bad, alot more, but I'll keep my gripes to a minimum. The Good --------- Its F'n G.I.Joe! Duke was good. Pretty much all the actors delivered the goods. I wanted more interaction and less action. Snake-Eyes was incredible. Storm Shadow was incredible. Except his ending. Blah! JGL was phenomenal as Cobra Commander. I loved him as CC. CC making Destro his bitch was great. The Cobra Gunship was beautiful when in action. I want a bigger toy version. Again, there is more good, but I'll also keep my praises short. I would love to discuss more, but I'll wait to the majority of Tank members have seen it. Don't want to give away too many details. Overall, if I were to rate it, I would give it a C on the A thru F scale, or a 6 on the 1 thru 10 scale. This is given loosely since I'll see it again with my son, and give a much more insightful grade. I recommend it to Joe and non-Joe fans on the strength of the action. I'm glad I gave it a chance. It felt great to see G.I.Joe on the silver screen. I even brought Snake-Eyes and Storm Shadow figures with me. Thats right, you read it correctly, and what!

We all love the same thing. We really could use some more level headed Joe fans though, now more then ever. A few of my 82nd boys are creeping around to address all of you're Joe quandaries and issues. Major blood happens to be a card carrying member.

This film was ridiculously bad. All I heard on the way out was how terrible it was.

Oh and one more thing.... anyone else notice that Paramount thanked Sony for the Blackhawk Down footage? Even the helicopters were borrowed from another movie.
Still maintain... 2 out of 4 |

I just got back from the theatre and I couldn't disagree more.
We loved it ! (even though there are some changes). The action was great and I really liked the special effects. |
