Hardly the worst movie ever.
I've seen Dragon Wars, lol.
There was waaay too much CGI. It's a popcorn movie, lots of explosions, very little real substance. I was hoping for more, but it was okay, overall.
Cobra has won. The Battle is over. Or is it?

okay so i enjoyed it for the most part, there was tons of stuff i hated and i knew i was gonna hate a lot of it but ended up not hating it as much as i thought i would. what i hated, storm shadow's death, end credits music (wtf was that about!?!?), cover girl dying, hawk getting his ass kicked, the backstory of rex, baroness and duke, ripcord and scarlett love angle, lack of costume design, not enough joes!, i can think of a few more things. but what i did like....overall i left the movie pumped up for a sequel and wanting to get into a fight, shoot some guns, play the gi joe video game! lol actually i felt like the movie played very much like a video game for the most part, and it worked. i wanted more of brendan fraiser, more of the joe pit. i liked the neo vipers, i wish they had more types of vipers in the movie, i liked the fast paced action, the delta six accelorator suits weren't terrible, but still a little goofy, but they fit in with the movie, i liked the flashback scene with rex and mindbender, however was still disapointed with the back story of cobra and cobra commander, destro was good, baroness really pissed me off, breaker and ripcord were much better than i thought. i think they tried fitting wayyyy too much history in one movie, if its going to be called the rise of cobra, stick to the story of the rise of cobra, save flashbacks and history for another movie, and if your gonna make a movie about the "rise of Cobra" at least get the story right! althought i like how they left it open for the sequel. i wouldnt pay to see it again, but i will definately buy the blu ray when it comes out and i'll be there for the midnight showing of a sequel if it happens.

This movie was indeed badass and chock full of win! They took some pretty big liberty's (imo) and it wasn't Gi Joe as i remember it but it was a very enjoyable film and i look forward to the next one and what characters will make it into the new movie.
One thing i feel should be mentioned, there was a guy there dressed from head to toe as Cobra Commander in his hood. He did a really good job and it looked really accurate. Also saw a guy dressed in a Gi Joe outfit complete with Beachead type mask and assault riffle.

Cobra wants you! I'm looking for some ruthless Vipers to fill the ranks. Joes need not apply.

I saw it with the wife. I nearly feel out of my seat when Breaker took Duke's last piece of gum. Still not sure of the whole CC/Baroness relationship, but I thought "Baroness de Cobray" was a nice touch.

Just got back from seeing the movie. Now that I have?
This movie suffers from two things:
Poor acting and even worse editing. First? Let's get to the acting.
Channing Tatum absolutely blows as Duke. He truly has the acting range of a brick wall as he displays maybe one or two emotions through-out the entire movie. His performance is painful to watch and he seems to be a black hole of charisma as he brings everyone else's performance down to his level.
Christopher Eccleston sucks hard as Destro. The accent seems a bit too forced which is strange seeing how he comes from the UK. He seems to be in a hurry for some reason, as he tries to spit out his lines as fast as possible. Also? The mask is horrendous. It looks like an unfinished effect. It is so hokey the way they choose to do this. A big disappointment.
Dennis Quaid is horrible as Hawk. Like Duke, he seems to be capable of only one or two emotions and he basically just phones it in. He turned Hawk into the typical cliched military general. What a waste.
Rachel Nichols blows as Scarlett. In the theatre where I was at? She actually got the biggest laugh in the movie as she blubbers to Ripcord "I was always meant to win..." after The Baroness hands her her rear end in a fight. She does little except shoot Vipers in the eye with her crossbow and smiles whenever Ripcord is around. She is just about useless in the Paris pursuit as Heavy Duty tells her not once, but twice, that she needs to get into the fight and after a short motorcycle ride? She gives up and gets back in the van with HD and Breaker.
Sienna Miller is passable as The Baroness, even though her best moments of the film are simply standing there in black leather. She's definitely eye-catching but towards the end of the film she takes a major character turn which waters down her character. A shame, but I really don't think they left her with much to do in terms of character development in the sequel (should there be one).
Marlon Wayans is surprisingly passable. He's a lot less annoying than one might be led to believe, but that's about it. He gets a passing grade simply for containing what could have easily been a Jar Jar type character, and instead turning Ripcord into someone you come to grudgingly respect at the end of the film.
Top of the class
Joseph Gordon-Levitt steals every scene he is in. He easily turns in the best performance of the movie and the new look aside? You totally buy him as Cobra Commander. Deranged, menacing, scheming, and threatening. A+!
Byung-hun Lee excels as Storm Shadow. He shows a lot of depth in the more quieter scenes and oozes bad-ass in the action sequences. Nearly flawless.
Ray Park is a win as Snake-Eyes. The lips aside, Snake-Eyes is easily the best Joe in the movie and almost saves the film. Seems like he's always doing something interesting and trust me, you will cheer when he makes his first appearance in the movie. For a brief moment? It was the mid 80's again as the fan-boy in me got to see one of his childhood heroes kick ass!
They get an incomplete
Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje as Heavy Duty does little and contributes little. He's one step away from being a generic Pitt commando.
SaÔd Taghmaoui turns in a forgettable performance as Breaker. He wasn't bad, wasn't good, wasn't passable... he was just kind of there.
Arnold Vosloo needed more screen time as Zartan. He seemed like he might have been really good, but sadly he was given very little to do.
The supporting characters in the film? They might have well used mannequins. Nothing stands out in my mind about any of them. Jonathan Pryce seems to be too much of a wimp to have ever been elected to the highest office in America.
Now, for the film itself?
The editting really drags this film down big time. The movie seems to be in so much of a hurry to get back to the action sequences that it's like "Okay, here's the people, here's what they want, FIGHT!". I swear you'll get whiplash as you're carted from one scene to another with very little in the way of who these people are, what their motivation is, and what's going on.
The plot is very thin and transparent as it boils down to a game of "Who got the warheads?!". The sub-plot between Duke and Baroness comes off as awkward thanks to the lack of talent supplied by Tatum. The fight between lil' Snake-Eyes and lil' Storm Shadow (and yes, they are reffered to as their code names as children as ludicrous as it sounds) is so stupid. It seems they begin fighting for almost no other reason other than it's been a while since there was some action. At the end of the movie? You'll be hard pressed to describe it as it seems to blur by so quickly and so vaguely. You know you have went to see a movie, but you'll be damned to remember what it was all about.
The effects are fine in some places, atrocious in others - namely Destro's mask. Really, since when did Destro have a lumpy head?
The action scenes are frantic, fast paced, and confusing. Again, there is so much flying on the screen it's hard to keep track of what's happening.
All in all? I rate ROC a 3 out of 10. There are some highlights, but not nearly enough to keep this film from being forgotten, unfulfilled, and unsatisfying. GI Joe ROC is truly a film for the ADD generation.
