Well of course the cartoon was cheesy and dumb!!! I still love it though.
But why can't the film be viewed through the same eyes, even though it's 'new'?

CC's voice was was too deep.. while James "Destro" McCullen sounded like a whiny school girl .. they should used Shawn Connery as a voice double when he gets his chrome dome

I watched this yesterday. Loved it. I'm a pretty big G.I. Joe fan and this had me smiling all the way through.
The action scenes were top notch, in my opinion. The opening where Duke and Ripcord were getting knocked around and then the Joes showed up, I couldn't stop grinning. The Paris scene was really also done really well. I was extremely worried the Accelerator Suits would get in the way, but they were only in their for just a few minutes. The Underwater battle was my least favorite scene , but it worked for me. My personal favorite was the attack on The Pit. Cat fights, gunfire, and ninjas! Snake Eyes was obviously the highlight for me. Ray Park was perfectly cast. Other than the Accelerator Suits, my biggest worry was Marlon Wayons as Ripcord. I agree with Micheal24, he was likeable. Some of his jokes were funny and I didn't mind his relationship with Scarlett. It was actually bearable. By the way, the females in this movie kicked ass. Scarlett had a neat crossbow gun, and Baroness had her sonic wave one. The cat fight was nice too. The villains were good, and threatening. Storm Shadow was fierce and bad-ass. Really hope he comes back somehow. Destro was very neat, and I didn't mind the accent. His mask, while not the best, was pretty neat. I just hope he isn't completely controlled by Cobra Commander in the sequel. I'd like to see him do some thinking of his own. Zartan was very well done. Hope to see more of him. I was shocked at how well Sienna Miller portrayed Baroness. She pretty much stole the show. Then we get to Cobra Commander. (or The Doctor as he is called up until the end of the film) Very creepy, and I enjoyed JGL's performance. Seeing how I knew what CC looked like for a whille, I kinda got used the weird mask. Oh, and I loved the shot of him and Destro locked up, because it was like a little teaser for the next film. (in a way) While the Baroness/Duke/Cobra Commander relationship never happened in the comics (I think, I never really did read much of it) or cartoons, it seems to work well here in a weird way. I just hope they find a way to make Baroness evil for the sake of being evil. Please, please, please. All in all in was a fun ride full of cool gadgets, top-notch action sequences, and great characters. Hope to see more classic Joes like Gung-Ho, Shipwreck, and Snow Job in the sequel. I would recommend it to people who want to have a good time. 4/5 |

It would have made more sense to have marlon play Alpine and the Baroness should have had an accent |

0/10. Awful, awful, awful. I think they pretty much did everything they possibly could have wrong.
This was a G.I. Joe movie in name only. As far as I'm concerned, there isn't a G.I. Joe movie. The closest thing is Resolute. |

I will answer this as it is pretty simple. There were a lot of thigns that the orignal cartoon had that were dumb and cheesey. There were a lot of universes made since 1990 that came and went due to something called interest and attention span. I have a very short attention span and it takes a lot to perk my interest. That interest totally died when they 90's hit due to the direction they took the figures and the way the cartoon became a football team with Gridiron and crew and those robowarriros and eccowarriors. Samething with Transformers once the Transfromers movie came out they lost a lot of the origianl feelt he first few seasons had. ROC perked my interest greatly the first time I saw a Snake Eyes picture on the internet. All you could see was him from the side in front of a wall with his sword over his head, was pretty shadowey so you could not make out his features. Then I see a Profile shot later and he has a huge mouth...BOOM lost interest immeidatley and from there on nothing but utter dumbness and stupidy flowed forth in the trailers especially wayanes and the D6AC suits, lack of original updated versions of a lot of the iconic vehicles form both sides and of course the unlikness other than costume of the baroness, Destro, and CC. That was all catastophic to my interest and attention span. I started getting the feeling of overtones from the universes I really disliked and found it catering to an era of GI JOE that I dispised and it molded in my mind that way. SO no matter what lense I tried touse, it looked just like the stuff that I did not like about GI JOE wen it lost it's original luster for me. If they had toned down some of the HALOish (all of the halo customs are really not helping the D6AC suits although they look cool HALO style) Star Warsish rippoffs, left the retard Wayans out and fully upgraded the look and feel beyond what they gave us in ROC with all of its harsh changes, I would be right there with you guys screaming support. But this is not what i waited all these years to finnaly see in a big time movie production as the upgrade last ditch effrot to revive a new vision of GI JOE. I still feel there is multiple ways they could do this better but it will require leaving everything ROC on the table and return to the drawing board. I am really disappointed that Quaid did not do good as as Hawk. He looke really good for the part and was one of the things Iw as holding out hope for same thign for Channing Tattum. Oh well I figured people would say they were not thier parts and I reluctantly figured that would be the end result.

I went and saw the movie today. I was saving my criticism till I had seen it beginning to end. I really enjoyed it, my wife enjoyed it too. Sure if I was the director I would have changed a bunch of stuff to make it a little more Joeish. Sure, there was some cheesiness, but the cartoon had cheddar too. All in all I'm happy with it, It could have been a little better, but has there ever been a movie made that was totally perfect?
Just my 2 cents. |
