I just got back from the theater. I saw the film with my wife. We both liked it very much! I didn't mind the suits. I didn't mind most of the characterizations. Storm Shadow was a little too evil for my taste. I like my storm shadow as a heroic character. But I guess it could be fixed for future films by saying that he was under cobra commander's nano-brain-wammy-thrall-thingy like the baroness was and now destro is.
Its not like brainwashing hasn't come up in gi joe before....
I liked it alot. Enough that I'll probably go see it in the theater again with my brother.
On the way home from the film we stopped at TRU and picked up the ROC game for PS3. It is calling to me as I sit here typing. Gotta go.....

I like it a lot.
I really thought that it was going to suck bad, but it did not. It has a strange feeling of kids exagerated play, whenever an explosion is simulated and zillion of Cobra soldiers are blown away through the sky.
The weakest link? Duke.
Tatum is too much soft playgirl cover model to pull up some kind of militar force leader.
Most of the flashbacks are badly induced, pretty much like soap opera recalls.
The best. Snake, the Baroness & Scarlett (freaking beautiful hot!)
I hope it does well and we get a second one with Flint, Lady Jaye, Firefly, Dreadnocks, Timber, Tomax & Xamot.

Ok let me start by saying up until a week ago I expected this to suck real bad. Well I just came back from seeing it and I really liked it. A big turn around from my previous thoughts. Maybe it was the low expectations I originally had going in to it. It wasn't great but count me in for the Blu-ray because I'd watch it a few more times. I went into realizing it is 2009 not 1983. I've changed since I was 4 so I would expect other things too also. I've recently watched the box set Shout Factory released and although I still enjoyed the cartoon, a live movie in 2009 just like it would suck.
Now as I said it was far from perfect. The biggest thing for me was the CGI. As stated in an earlier post, alot of it looked like something off of a SyFy channel movie. The Destro "mask" was pretty bad too.
Some of the dialog was alittle cheesy and I thought Duke didn't quite show the leadership he should but in this movie he was a new recuit so maybe that changes in the sequal.
Now I am probably on an island all by myself here an it's ok by me but I LIKED Cobra Commander. I like the voice and although at first I didn't like the new look it has grown on me. He did remind me of Vader at times but oh well, I like Vader. Thats not to say I would be against a silver faced helmet in the sequal, but the current movie look ain't so bad.
It isn't the original cartoon from 25 years ago and I don't think it was intended to be. I was ok with the background changes. This is a new and different take on G.I. Joe and I liked it.

[QUOTE= Lack of classic joe vehicles.
The murder of Cover Girl- Um guys what was that? That was not needed and kinda stupid.[/QUOTE]
Yes- we need a better up-date to our beloved Joe vehicles and not just something someone on the design team came up with and putting the famous names on them (AKA SARC)
Well- maybe we'll get another Cover Girl in the next film! Because if you watch the Sunbow Cartoons, She went from a long haired blonde in the MASS Device Movie- to the Cover Girl we all know and love!

What I did notice and they felt like classics... WHALE, SHARC, VAMP( hummers) polar bear( RockSlide) FLAGG, c'mon it was a classic transportation. The pit that is mobile could easily consider it the original throw back to the mobile command center that was tan.
I did notice LAW, Jinx, Bazooka, and well... I think I even saw one that resemebled tunnel rat. ... The Game however has more original cast members... members in RoC video game include backblast, Shipwreck, and Beachhead(25th A)

I have to keep this short as to not sound as if I am praising it or flaming it, as I am truely on the fence.
I was really upset about some of the "alternate" story swaps such as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow's history, and thus the history between Snake Eyes and Scarlet. ( Referring to the "Vow of silence bit instead of the Heli rescue )
However, I was also surprised at the overall "G.I. Joe" feeling of the movie. They did a great job of taking a wildly advanced cartoon arsenal and making it believablr on the big screen.
Coulda been better, but it could have been a WHOLE lot worse in my opinion.
In the eyes of a snake, everything is either a threat or it is prey.

Late to the ball game, but I saw it this afternoon and have had some time to digest.
Bottom line up front: I liked it (big surprise, huh?). I didn't love it, but I liked it.
Zartan - Totally stole the show with his brief part. Gave the most convincing performance out of anyone in the movie. I'm not even that big a fan of Zartan, but -this- guy I could get behind. To be truthful, I think he could've been a great Cobra Commander or Destro. He managed to make Zartan a well fleshed-out character with probably only a dozen lines or so and about 5-10 minutes of screentime. That's pretty dang impressive.
Storm Shadow - Well played, and very intense. Came across as more than suitably badass. I'm pretty sure his lines were dubbed but they did it pretty well.
Snake-Eyes - Also made suitably badass without completely stealing the whole show from the other characters. The lips were a minor distraction, but I didn't notice too much as the movie went along.
Ripcord - Probably the most likeable I've ever seen Marlon Wayans. He seemed genuine, and despite a couple slapstick moments, was generally portrayed more as just a military guy with a sense of humor than straight-up "comic relief."
Cobra Commander - Loved the performance...hated the final mask. Didn't even mind the deep voice at the end, though I found it a little weird. My only hangup is that Rex didn't get enough development to explain to us why he went from (seemingly) good guy to megalomaniac apparently at the drop of a hat (or a bomb, as he case may be).
The Supporting Players - I actually liked Breaker and really liked Heavy Duty (I'm wondering if Heavy Duty got more lines than anyone else in the movie at this point). Scarlett, while far from a supporting player, was also decent (and gorgeous, which didn't hurt at all).
The Action and Story in General - Well staged, generally well paced (the flashbacks did drag in a couple spots, brief though they were), and entertaining.
The Easter Eggs - Breaker and bubble gum. Scarlett's motorcycle outfit. Hawk's brown leather jacket with camo pants. The USS Flagg. Dr. Mindbender. "Kung-Fu Grip" and "Knowing is Half the Battle."
Audience Reaction: A hearty round of applause at the end. Laughter and some cheering at "Knowing is half the battle." Packed house, and a lot of seemingly-excited kids coming out of the theater when it ended. My non-Joe fan friends who accompanied me all liked it to varying degrees.
Destro - I love Eccleston, and he wasn't bad, but he was a lot less calm and calculating than I would have preferred Destro to be. Probably more a script issue than a performance issue.
Ripcord/Scarlett - It would fall under "bad" but quite frankly it didn't seem like that big a deal. There were about as many hints as a Snake-Eyes/Scarlett thing going on in the background as there were with a "real" relationship between Scarlett and Ripcord. Basically, I don't like the idea of Ripcord and Scarlett (over Scarlett and Snake-Eyes), but it didn't upset me -too- much because I could easily see it just being a "friends" thing by the end of the movie.
Flashbacks - A few too many, and even though they were generally wisely cut short, they did slow down the pacing of the film some.
The CGI - Not nearly as bad as some people are making it out to be, but definitely dodgy in a few spots. Destro's lips (though the rest of the mask looked OK to me), the Steel Crusher's "bumper deployment" and a couple of the accelerator suit shots definitely stuck out here.
The Dialogue - A little overly hammy in places, but generally not too painful. Definitely not "good" though, either, except in a few spots.
General Hawk - Quaid played it just a touch too far on the hammy side for my tastes. Though at least he conveyed enough charisma for me to find him believable as being "in charge."
The Soundtrack - Absolutely nothing memorable. Don't really know what I was expecting, but just seemed very phoned-in.
The Blatant Star Wars Ripoffs: Yeah, the whole attack on the underwater base was straight up "attack on the Death Star." It wasn't a -bad- ripoff/homage, but it was pretty dang obvious.
Duke - He sucked. I'm sorry, but he sucked. He absolutely lacked anything that remotely resembled Duke. He had absolutely no "oomph" and no real sense of urgency in ANY of his scenes. Tatum seems to have one expression and one tone of voice and that's it. Or at least that's how he came across in this movie. My suggestion is sideline him for the next one and let Flint take center stage. Unless Tatum and the Duke character get a serious boost in acting skills between films, he's not strong enough to hang another movie on.
Baroness - The performance was fine. The look was great. I didn't even mind the backstory with her, Rex, and Duke. But the "return to the good side at the end?" THE WORST THING ABOUT THE WHOLE MOVIE. Baroness needs to be bad, and stay bad. At the VERY least if they were going to "redeem" her they should've waited for a later film. Besides, she's supposed to be with Destro anyway (at least they threw in that chemistry). Didn't ruin the whole movie for me, but the heel/face turn at the end there was -not- kosher.
Lack of Vehicles - There just should have been more, that's all. I wouldn't mind a Howler toy, but aside from that and the big sub, there's really not much else. Then again, Cobra's pretty much already had everything except their own subs made. I would definitely like an accurate (two person) "Mantis" Sub, though.
Overall I'd give it about a "B" without any pluses or minuses. I was generally entertained despite the parts I didn't care for. It'll get a purchase on DVD and maybe a repeat viewing in theaters.

I wish they had kept the ending that I read in the novelization.
CC and Destro escape, only the Baroness is captured and Duke is told that they can't deprogram her, it's too complicated and she tells Duke that she enjoyed doing the things she did.
That ending would have probably pushed it up more notches.
And the beginning part (that was shown in the trailers) between McCullen and Hawk would have helped out as well.
