It was very Star Warsish.

I just got back, and I loved it! Loved everything save for the Baroness, the twist was not very well played. And yes, I will even go so far as to say the Ripcord was awesome!

Just got back from the movie. I loved it, and so did my wife. The Baroness by far was our favorite. If you have not seen it do yourself a favor and go see it. We are heading back tomorrow to see it again.

Ok. I just saw the movie and while I went in with very low expectations...I LOVED IT! Yeah, it veers from the cartoon & comic story-line but that's not necessarily a bad thing. The movie wasn't made to jerk-off us existing Joe fans, but to make new ones. Although I certainly didn't feel betrayed or anything. The movie was fun as hell to watch and those stupid accelerator suits are only in one scene. All I can say is the next one better have shipwreck, and he better NOT be played by the rock. If you claim to be a Joe fan, quit douching it up and just go watch the freaking movie. You may be pleasantly surprised.

I went into the movie with an open mind to like it or dislike it for what it was, and I came out in the middle. some of the changes worked great. Cobra Commander is better than the comic, cartoon or Resolute (sorry X). and I like his look much better too. and I found the Baroness far more interesting than had she just been an evil seductress. others, not so much. the reactive armor just doesn't look good on film. still shots. sure. action figure. you bet. in motion, pretty boring. the script, although clearly better than the version that made its rounds a year ago, was pretty weak, and Stephen Sommers isn't a great director, and probably a worse editor. |

I think a very notable quote from that Larry Hama interview conduced yesterday (7th) is this:
Quote: SG: Of course the big news is the live action G.I. Joe movie. How do you feel about seeing a property that you are so close to finally coming to the big screen? Larry Hama: I've seen it five times and I love it. I've said time and again that I am not one for continuity and that RAH (Real American Hero) was made up as it went along literally page by page and a huge hunk of it was retcon. The intrinsic cores of the characters are right there in the movie, exactly as they were in the comic. Scarlett, Storm Shadow and Snake-Eyes are true to their essence. The continuity freaks need to get a life. ******************* It kind of puts some things in perspective for me regarding the film, which I thought was good "reboot". I collected the toys as a child back in the mid to late 1980s and early 1990s, when it was known as Action Force here in the UK. I only regained interest a few months ago, about the same time I discovered these forum websites. So I am coming at this as both an outside observer and as an enthusiast, albeit not a military obsessive. seyms |

I agree. his voice was cool to begin with, it didn't need to be deeper.

I saw it & I'm very dissapointed, primarily by the storyline. There were too many inconsistencies. The plot crossed too many timeslines within the G.I. JOE universe. Skewing facts we all know about G.I. JOE. I thought it moved way too fast, there was no suspense. Everyone knew who everyone else was. I figured out the sequel by the end of the 1st hour.
This movie should have been a no-brainer for Paramount Pictures. The comic book should have been used as the screenplay; just throw in current events to update. Brendan Frasier as Lt Stone was a good cameo, the Dr. Mindbender cameo wasn't too memorable. I thought it was cheesy when they spliced in a scene right out of "Blackhawk Down". It had way too much of a sci-fi spin to it than an elite military SPECOPS film. It was too large scale, nothing seemed tactical, realistic or practical. The Duke/Baroness relationship, I really didn't appreciate that. The Baroness character seemed to lack depth. Sienna Miller is a really good actress, they could have written the Baroness role better for her. I also didn't appreciate Duke's rank change in the movie from a First Sergeant to a Captain. Marlon Wayans was funny... But damnit if there's going to be an African-American character in the movie it should have been "Stalker" plain and simple. Also, Heavy Duty should've been named Roadblock. Channing Tatum was good but Matthew McConaughey would have been better. Dennis Quaid was good, Kurt Russell would have been a good choice also. Christopher Eccleston as Destro was excellent. Just a typical summer blockbuster kiddie movie. But it's going to endear new generations of "Joe" fans.
