Just saw it again, this time with a cpl friends who could care less about Joe and all the opening day fans. Most jokes were laughed at, 'oooohs' and 'aaaahs' at particular action shots, and what finally blew my mind......APPLAUSE. Thats right folks. This movie was applauded. On my way out all I heard was 'Did you see that thing go BOOOM' and 'see that guy go KAPOW?!?' My friends really liked it. I thought they were gonna punch me for taking me to see a bad movie. But as far as Manchester, NH is concerned, the moviegoers loved it.
There was a general groan at A) Baroness/Duke at the end, and some dude yelled 'WTF' (or something along those lines) when CC put his mask on =P |

A guy from PA asked yesterday if I was planning on going to see ROC. He was looking for a fellow geek to go with. I told him I was riding home to NC to see it with friends.
Took my wife, dad, brother, and 2 joe-lovin' friends. We all loved it. We all went in skeptical, but willing to try it once. We were secretly afraid that as good as everything has looked in snips that it would blow chunks as a whole. We were suprised. We loved it. Still think Commander looks like Star Wars. Still think the underground base is the coolest Deathstar ever! And some of the underwater shots were very star-wars in motion, but whatever. It was fun. It was cool. More adult that I thought they'd go in voilence, only suggestive in sex, sparse on crude language. Nice pic. Good story telling. From the trailers I hated Ripcord. The trailers make him look like he shouldn't be a Joe (falling out of vans, low test scores) but in the movie I liked him a lot. I'll admit it. I judged to harshly. He made me laugh. No, it's not the cartoon storyline, or the comic, but it is a story to itself. It was accessible to old and new fans. Lots of cool details for fans and new stuff too. I liked it. I'm hoping a buddy will call me up and want to go see it again. When does the DVD come out? Christmas? |

I just finished seeing it for the 2nd time. I really like it. I think I was able to relax and just enjoy it the 2nd time with less anticipation. They are definitely thinking about sequels and spent a good deal of time setting up the franchise. The mind-control nanomites thing makes me think of Cobra Commander having everyone controlled like in the Marvel Comic run. Overall, a great movie with a ton of action. The only thing that I don't like is CC's mask. How cool it would have been to have him don the old Chrome Dome at the end. Oh well, maybe in part 2!

While talking about easter eggs and what not I dont know if anyone has mentioned this one but Storm Shadow's line "He never gives up" wasnt that a nod to the theme song?
Going to go see it again probably tomorrow night after work, I had a blast with it. |

Took a girl to see the movie who knew nothing about GI Joe or its origin. She liked it but was confused as hell who were the good and the bad guys. Everyone, according to her wore black and that made it hard to tell who was who. I don't blame her, I liked it better when you could distinguished the characters from their different outfits and gear. Oh well, the movies wasn't really my cup of joe(pun intended) but it seemed everyone at the theatre enjoyed it.

If you are a fan of G.I.Joe you should not be a fan of that movie. It was as if G.I.Joe had been raped, raped so badly that even it's family should turn their backs to it. I pray that it bombs so these smug film makers will learn that a sequel is not always a guarantee, and that maybe they should make just one GOOD movie instead of a thousand crappy movies.
that being said, the movie was okay. nothing bad, nothing great. Cobra Commander was my favorite part. I even liked his mask, it worked in motion. Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow were great. so were the Baroness and Rip Cord. the rest, ehh. mostly it was just poorly edited. other than the accelerator suit chase, which was really cool, the movie never had any dramatic tension. everything just kind of happens without any build up or energy. even when the Joes arrive in the beginning, it isn't done with any great applaud, they just kind of show up. from a quality movie stand point, it's a 5 out of 10. looking through Joe glasses, it gets a 6. |

A 3 on a scale of 5 stars.
I went into the movie with my mind made up it was going to be a zero. I decided to see for myself before i continue to complain. I ploncked down $20 bucks (paid for my best friend) and an additional $10 on food. The Good: General Hawk- They could not have had a better Hawk. Masterfully played and dead on characterization. I am very happy his role was expanded. Snake Eyes & Storm Shadow-The adult and child versions were great. A nice update to the classic story. Entertaining and well thought out. The best development of any of the characters. Destro (actor performance & story) - He stole the show. I love Christopher Eccleston. He is the best choice for the role. He played it so true to history that i was glad i paid to see the movie. He was truely an evil genius arms merchant, a true james Bond villian. The USS Flag- Holy crap! Thep put old 99 in the movie! That was a shock. Zartan- The whistling machine, Nuff' Said! Cobra Commander's evolution- Seeing him change through flashbacks & the end scenes were classic. It gives me hope for the next films. A great set up. Joseph Gordon-Levitt surprised me. Going in i was hating him. Afterward i liked his portrayal. Especially at the end. This was the thing that was the most opposite of my impression before the movie. Cobra Logo on sub at the end & Jailed Destro & Cobra commander. The Bad: The Baroness story- She did not need to be a mind controlled love intrest to duke. That sucked donkey rump. A back story is fine but making her "good" was a slap in our faces. Horrible writing in this area. Ripcord- He was ok in his role but WTF?! Too much comic reliec. And call him Stalker Dammit! Neo Viper costumes- too much Hollywood tampering. Should have looked more like Vipers or non sculpted faces. A nose and mouth on helmet looks like crap. Accelerator suits- Flashy chase scene fluff. Thank God they were not in whole movie. It was like the Old Marvel NFL Superpro comic in (unfit words for this forum) style. The physics of the chase were well, unphysic-like. Gravity and momentum do not work that way. Poor directing and cg work. The Ugly: Gung-ho- Or as i call him "Plug Brendon Frasier into a bland role" Scarlet & Ripcord "interest"- It was obvious by her & Snake eyes touching and hugs that they were together. The Ripcord part was stupid and a waste of time. Lack of classic joe vehicles. Everyone Knowing about Night Ravens & their operation. What was that crap??? The murder of Cover Girl- Um guys what was that? That was not needed and kinda stupid. The good did change my view enough to like it somewhat and appreciate the setup for the future. That HOPE make this better than i thought before. But the bad was very bad. The director must be flayed or worse. Forced to learn GI JOE and be whipped for stupid changes. Will add more when i digest this futhur. Last edited by AlternateUniverse Steeler; 08-08-2009 at 02:23 AM.. |

just got done seeing it. mixed feelings about it but i smiled on a few scenes like the night raven and attack on the pit scene. The gunship looked cool. baroness is freaking hot. dennis quaid almost ruined the movie. I just was getting annoyed at him throughout the movie. maybe it was the script. I was shocked to see my sister and girlfriend liked it. alot of non gi joe fans love this movie. I wish i heard CC throw in a retreat retreat or have the hood on. It was good. i dont feel ripped off and i love gi joe. I read all the comics and the director is full of it if they claim its based off the comic but i cant wait for the sequel.
