Sorry for the negative post but that was two hours of my life I will never get back.....I will stick to rewatching my collectors discs and the new resolute episodes (if they ever again materialize) for a visual Joe fix....

Just like the Transformers movie, which I am not surprised by, the conflicted arguments, the calling of other people as haters, or lovers, it's like I did have that time machine mentioned by the poster way back on page '?' and have gone back in time to 2007 when the first TF movie came out.
Due to my experience with Transformers, and what I had read, and seen before the GI JOE movie hit theaters, I was prepared to go into this with low expectations for it being my ultimate live action GI JOE representation, and just to try to enjoy it as a movie, time with my wife, etc. Sure it's not what I would 'dream' for a representation of the GI JOE movie to be. Was it serviceable, yes. Should people see it? Sure, people have wasted time doing worse things. I thought parts of it were good and parts of it bad. The jokes seemed to hit the young audience well, and the older audience seemed to enjoy the Baroness, and Scarlett. Both parts of the audience seemed to enjoy the action. It's not saying much, but I liked it better than the two Transformers movies. Maybe that's because I'm a TF fan first (and more critical of related material), but I am a Joe fan close second, and still managed to enjoy it. What I found good: Zartan- well played sir, and makes me hope for the snake to get outted in the second movie, and have to don the partial hood due to his nanomites, reacting with sunlight...my gripe with Zartan, they changed the line from the comic iteration to the movie where he and SS attack Hawk. What I wanted to hear was... ZARTAN (to SS): "Still haven't changed your rules about killing women, have you?" (paraphrase) SS (to Zartan in comic): "If you were a woman, I'd make an exception." Instead he said (in movie), "If it were you, I'd make an exception." Maybe that makes sense to no one, but to me when I read it in the comic with woman in his retort, it was funny and laid down their relationship perfectly, but in the movie, how it was said was less clear, and less enjoyable/witty. Movin' on: I also liked the Cobra Gunship kicking ass. However, I would have liked to have seen, at least in this movie, a Cobra that was less technologically advanced, and who were similar to regular army, except you know, COBRA-ized. And of course, joe too... Liked the Baroness and Scarlett most of the time. I thought of all the actors/actresses in the film they were playing the parts pretty well. Liked the little fan shouts: Breaker and his BBgum bubbles, the homages to the classic vehicle stickers on the insignia at the beginning of the end credits, Scarlett crossbow. Didn't like: Snake Eyes mouth, and costume--it was way more noticeable than I thought after reading posts here--. In fact, most of the film I did not like SE, or SS much. Didn't like CC's mask, CC's origin, CC's relationship to Baroness. Didn't like Rip mackin' on Scarlett. DIDN'T LIKE MOST: The Neo Viper's armor. Man I felt like I was in some cheesy Sci Fi with them in it. They could have at least moved like soldiers... instead they were robotic (I know mind control), but still... And didn't it seem like there were a whole lot more than 20 of them? And then there were Elite Vipers who also were nano-mited... But where were the everyday soldiers? The troopers? The Neo Vipers were everywhere, piloting the Gunship, piloting the subs, guarding things, etc... sure did stretch 20 really far. Decide if you want BATS, or intelligent super soldiers, but please choose. And then there were the Accelerator suits... give the joes Silver Mirages to chase with, or jet packs, something less SCI FI and also in the mythos... Sequel hopes: Zartan frees the CC and Destro with the help of Tomax and Xamot, who run their business end to get CC more money in exchange for more power. They activate the nanomites stronger in the Baroness, erasing her memories with Duke and replacing them with more Baroness like origins. Then the nanomites are destroyed (see below) and they save her (Zartan's jail break). Nanomites tech is destroyed by the creation of something Mainframe and Lifeline or DOC come up with, with Destro's help. Destro has gone back to playing both sides, and wants to give the joes an advantage to keep CC needing him, paying him for tech. Drednoks would be great to bring in too. They would be quite fun, and of course references to grape soda, and chocolate donuts. Joes I'd like to see: Flint, Lady Jaye, Shipwreck, Roadblock, SE with a more believable stealth-like costume with Timber, Gung Ho, Shockwave, and or Tunnel Rat. Hawk with a general's cap and shades would be better, and distinguish him from Flint. And Storm Shadow... yes, I want the joes (in particular SE) to pardon and debug him, save him from the ice water. Having Duke's brother, LT. Falcon would make sense to show up too. Cobras: Mercer, Firefly, Xamot/Tomax, Zartan Couple questions/thoughts: And where was the YO JOE cola reference in the movie, and the Cold Slither??? What was the significance of the balloon vendor in Paris? Why not Roadblock instead of Heavy Duty? The rhyming cajun chef, heavy machine gunner would have been much more fan-wankish!!! |

OK, I was actually kind of excited to see this finally, although everything we had seen and heard up to this point screamed suck! The early reviews were coming back good and better than expected so the stage was set!
My official opinion: HIGHLY disappointed. action packed but it did nothing to save the movie for me. I'll be fair and tell you what I liked about the movie first. Marlon Waynes! yes believe it or not the guy who caught the most flak from everyone including myself, was the best part for me. I found myself wanting to see more ripcord than anyone. Were necessary he fit the military type and was great comic relief when I found my neck hurting from shaking my head so much. I can see why it cost 175 million, it was packed so full of CG that it was annoying and a lot of it was poorly done. The acting was flat I was embarrased for Sienna Miller she came off very amature. Scarlett was way too airheaded to be a genius. Duke I just can't find the words but Duke of all characters was not a fit for his acting style (if you want to call it that) Cover Girl not worth the time (if you seen the movie you know what i'm saying) Heavy Duty and Breaker were space fillers as far as i'm concerned they didn't add to or take away from the performance. Snake Eyes nothing wrong with ray parks portrail but the costume was hideous and not just the mouth! McCullan: Christopher Es' scottish accent was very forced so much so it was distracting! Rex: potential to be a good CC. he had the creepiness but the costume and back story were his downfall! Hawk: nothing wrong with Dennis Quade but some of his costumes were very Buck Rogers looking! The scope of the sets were so big they were completely unbelievable. It worked for comics and cartoons but in live action CG it was just cheesy. The relationships were unneccessary for some and just a bad idea for others. The sonic guns that Cobra used made them just look down right goofy rather than ruthless. The nanomites were an excuse for everything (lazy writing) and the things you thought would make great toys never will see the light of day and the dumb ass stuff is probably already on the drawing board. This is my condensed oppinion of the movie. If I had the patience I could write a book on the things that bothered me. I was surprised at how easy it was to dislike this movie. I really hoped for the best and aimed a little too high! |

I'm watching this thing on T.V. Guide, the actors seem like real nice guys. Probably the nicest is the guy who plays Heavy Duty.

There was no indication that the Elite-Vipers were nano-enhanced.
I think, from what I understood, that there had only been 20 Neo-Vipers. They were all in the attack on the PIT and 1 was with the president.

I liked the scenes with Zartan mostly. Nice to see Sommers trying to keep his Mummy buddies faces out there... |

Great review Destro. I was a HATER but said I was determined to give it a chance (for the sake of my 7 year old).
I actually really liked this movie. Still bitter about a few of the changes... (withheld description to avoid spoiling for anyone who has not seen it yet). However, I liked it. It was very entertaining. Man... Hawk is a fast healer.

I am not sure either. Maybe they had un-enhanced Neo Vipers, but I still did not like them regardless. They were worse to me than Stormtroopers, although a bit more useful since the 20 nanomite ones could at least take a lickin' and keep on tickin'. |
