OK, I know a lot of you will probably agree with me on these points so here it goes..
These are my reviews and feedback on the overall aesthetic of the new movie from the standpoint of a longtime fan, not a drooling fanboy, mind you, but a fan none the less..These are broken down in line items: 1. Destro: Ok with the fact hes in a suit for most of the movie, a corporate arms dealer villian SHOULD look corporate for the most part, not exactly like a missing member of spinal tap like in the 80s Sunbow cartoon..As for the actor, I think Gerard Butler would have been perfect, hes got the ethnicity built in, the stature, and the booming voice. Plus, I could conceivably see him rockin' that red diamond on a chain. But for the most part, I think Eccleston will do a decent job. 2. Baroness: Like the costume alot, think Sienna Miller looks the part just fine. BIG MISTAKE not having at LEAST a slight russian accent, not over-the-top like the new Chekov or anything, but SOMETHING like the animated character. Dont know why they didnt do this. Also, would have like thicker rims on the glasses, more old school.. 3. Cobra Commander: Let me just say I like the DOCTOR concept AND look,...as TRANSISTIONAL ONLY. I eventually want to see him in the the dark blue '84 outfit and hood if nothing more for the next film...I really thought Willem Dafoe would have been perfect.. a leader of a well funded international terrorist organization would concievably be a little older, not exactly a kid (unless he is a inheritor of wealth or something). 4. Vipers: Cool with the Road Warrior-esque design of the Neo-Vipers only if they were supplemental to the classic soldiers, Vipers and crimson guard. I think its a BIG mistake to not include the soldiers and CGs in this movie. All they had to do was slightly update the look a tad (give them body armor and modern weapons) for the soldiers, Crimson Guard I would have kept EXACTLY the same, no change..In an ideal world of course.. 5. Scarlett: No complaints here, just fine. 6. Ripcord: Fine with having Marlon Wayons, but why not have him be Stalker instead? He looks like Stalker anyway. Dont know why he had to Ripcord, a pretty minor character to begin with.. 7. Hawk: No complaints, I actually always thought the '86 figure looked like Dennis Quaid! 8. Heavy Duty: Again, would have rather had Roadblock, but this guy seems pretty badass, so no real complaints. 9. Breaker: Im totally fine with this interpretation of the character, think its a good call to have him be of middle eastern descent. 10. Duke: Seems ok, but would have rather had Sam Worthington. 11. Black outfits: Seem a bit generic and overused, would like to see in maybe one or two scenes, and then have them wear updated versions of their classic outfits. 12. Accelerator suits: Look a little too Halo-ish for my tastes, overall Im on the fence about this one. What do you think?

I dont see why they couldn't wear clothes over the armor. oh well cant wait till next thursday night.
Hawk & Scarlett seem 100% perfect to me so far. Im liking HD to but still like Roadblock WAY more. Ripcord meh, but if he has at least some serious stuff I might not hate him. Duke seems good but id rather had Mark W play him. Last edited by SPECTER; 07-29-2009 at 04:56 PM.. |

Hey, as long as no one comes in and calls RoC fans lemmings or says that "it's ARAH or nothing", then it's all good.

Honestly don't care if a silver mask even makes an appearance, although I think it will. 2. Baroness: I'm a big Sienna Miller fan and have no problem with really anything to do with her version of Baroness. 3. Cobra Commander: A complete re-imagining and that's fine by me. I didn't think I'd dig a female Starbuck either in the new BSG but it proved to be awesome. I see no problem here at all. 4. Vipers: I actually like the Sci-Fi type design but I do sort of wish deep down that they looked more like the Resolute Cobra troops. 5. Scarlett: Awesome on every front. 6. Ripcord:I fully agree with your assessment. 7. Hawk: Quaid as Hawk is pure win. 8. Heavy Duty: Like the Heavy Duty character for ROC and have no complaints at all. 9. Breaker: Agree on all counts, but I do hope he chews bubblegum at some point in the film. 10. Duke: No problem with him at all. 11. Black outfits: Kind of like the para-military, Special/Black Ops look. Often thought that all the contrasting uniforms in Joe from my childhood would look too silly in real life. 12. Accelerator suits: a little Sigma 6 never killed anyone. |

About the Vipers, yeah I really dont have a problem with the design, but they should be Special forces commandos or SOMETHING to compliment the Resolute style classic soldiers.
The black outfits are fine for the missions, but when they are hanging out in the Pit, they could be in their RAH style uniforms. Come on, you know that if Sienna put on just a TAD bit of Russian accent, youd like it, right? Dont think Gerard Butler (as he was in 300, not Mr. Romantic Comedy lead) would have been perfect as Destro?

The only issues I have with the movie are the fact that the Cobra Commander mask (speaking of the toy, and assuming it will look like that in the movie......) looks like a glorified fish bowl, and the fact that Snake Eyes's costume bares the mark of the Arashikage clan where it is visible.

No. Too muscular. Too "rough" looking for the cultured Destro.
