Nah. It wasn't great by any stretch, but there have been far, far worse Joe vehicles (or even Joe planes). The "action features" were relatively low-key and while it was smaller than a lot of people wanted (of course) it was still a respectable little plane. I've never regretted owning it.
I'd be willing to bet that if the OG Night Raven had never existed, the reception of the movie Night Raven would have been a lot less negative. It might not be beloved but a lot more people would probably think it was a pretty cool little plane. But a lot of people were upset/disappointed that it wasn't as worthy a successor to the original as they wanted (and that's a very valid opinion, the OG Night Raven was super-awesome). The biggest fault with the ROC Nightraven? Being named the “Nightraven”. I actually liked the design of this vehicle for the most part, it just doesn’t cut it as a Nightraven is all.
Think of it as Taco Bell. Taco Bell is a college kid’s best friend, but it doesn’t cut it as “Mexican Food”. That’s not to say the food is bad, it’s just not the same thing as what properly would be called Mexican food (it’s actually Tex Mex). I do however really wish they wouldn’t have been so cheap with the landing gear and actually made these with rubber wheels that actually can roll. Considering how expensive these were when they first hit stores there’s really no excuse! Last edited by Dem_Yoe'z!; 07-09-2019 at 04:14 PM.. |

Yeah, I dig it. It's a fun toy and pretty neat-looking. It got a bad rap because we've become ridiculously beholden to the past and nitpicky about kid's toys. In what passes for my "Joeverse," it's called just "the Raven" and is a stealth fighter developed from the Night Raven program. It's smaller and slower, but more heavily armed, more maneuverable and much cheaper. It finally gave me a Cobra fighter-jet that is 100% Cobra with no real-world analog.

Yes, it's small, and yes, the wheels don't roll, but I like it. I put a vintage missile pod on it.
I also pinned the cocking mechanism in the extended position and removed the handle. I also removed the missiles so they look more like engine intakes now.

I had already considered the Cobra air legions replete with fighter-jets that are 100% Cobra with no real-world analogs. But seriously, I understand what you mean. I thought it was an okay toy for kids, but my children didn't seem to like it. Instead, they always preferred to play with my vintage Night Raven (and I really didn't mind, but I just didn't want them to break it).

See, and that's the thing, I look at all this stuff as kid's toys. I find I'm just happier that way. |
