Sho Nuff! It's amazing how much goodwill and brand value those clowns have destroyed. The whole lot of them should have been summarily fired after TLJ. It has only gotten worse since.

Not impossible, but extremely unlikely.
ARAH GI Joe simply doesn't have the same degree of presence in pop culture that Marvel does or even did prior to their movie universe starting up, and it contains a degree of subject matter that some groups will take objection to in ways they don't with superhero films (military action/"war movies"). Not enough to keep it from being successful, but enough to keep it from reaching quite the same heights of success. Also GI Joe simply doesn't have the breadth of history and sheer number of stories and characters to draw from. There's no "Guardians of the Galaxy" with GI Joe. Put another way, can anyone here seriously imagine a world where they're making "Battle Force 2000" or "Sky Patrol" as their own separate movies? |

Marvel has had 23, over three times that many, not even counting X-Men (12 films if you include the Deadpool movies), Pre-Tom Holland Spider-man (5 films, 6 if you include Venom), Fantastic Four (3 films), or anything made before the first Iron Man movie. You didn't ask if GI Joe could be popular like Transformers. You asked if it could be popular like Marvel. And even Transformers started their live-action films in a time and place where they were vastly more popular than Joe is right now (or even was at the time). Nobody's saying Joe can't become more popular, and nobody's saying it's IMPOSSIBLE it could become as popular as Marvel. It's just really, really, really unlikely. For a whole bunch of reasons, most of which have already been mentioned. And not every movie made by a "good" producer/director is equally good. Sometimes good directors make bad movies. Sometimes virtually unknown directors make good movies. |

The issue I would think is that the film industry is now a global market. While the MCU is very US centric is has many internal and alien races and interns appeal. While Joe dominated the comic titles in the 80s and clearly could out do the tights heroes in terms of characters and story arks, the issue would be how the film would preform outside of the US market and maybe the UK and Brazil where the line had a presence. Maybe you could bring in Asian fans with a heavy tie in of the Arashikage but you’d have to play that well. Though I disagree in terms of depth of characters, I think there are plenty of interesting hero’s and villains to fill up a trilogy, I don’t know how international the story would be. I think you could keep the story solid by staying within the better story arks of the earlier Marvel run. If I had a wish from a genie I’d like to see the Duffer Brothers work with either Paul Greengrass (Green Zone) or Doug Lima (Borne Identity) and Ridley Scott (Black Hawk Down among others). While the characters, especially the villains can be very comic bookish I’d like some some gravitas in the film.

If put in the rights hands, like Travis Knight, it could well be.
