but they don't stop there. they then give ridiculous arguments that if it's not from the 80's, it isn't G.I. Joe, or that the concept can't be updated. the topic of this thread itself lacks any intelligence whatsoever -- that they should have just used new characters instead of old one's if they didn't want to redo the characters to an exact tee from the 80's. that's ludicrous. the broad concepts of the characters are what have proven value and appeal, and that broad concept can be presented in numerous different ways (see Transformers). there's no reason to not use them just because you don't like any change to the characters.
the negative camp is just full of irrational, nonsensical rantings that lack any semblance of reason or knowledge of audience perception or expectation of the brand beyond their own narrow view of it.

I think it's sad that at a time when public awareness of GI Joe is at an all time high, when you can walk into Wal-Mart and find new Joes on the peg, when even Hot Topic has GI Joe shirts for sale... we can't allow ourselves as fans to enjoy it because we're caught up in debating a movie. Took me a while to see that but I do now.
Maybe the right way to view this movie is not too lament how it was made, but appreciate the fact it was made. Masters of the Universe and Transformers had their shot, now it's GI Joe's turn. Kids are probably going to be saying "I'll be Snake-Eyes and you be Storm Shadow" at school recess again, when was the last time that was said?
Yes, us die hard ARAH fans might not appreciate the liberties taken or the liberites we percieved were taken; but let's face it - we had our run back in the 80's. It's time to share our toys and let someone else play with them. They might not play with them the way we used to, but we can't hold that against them. It's the new generation's turn. It's not their daddy's GI Joe they're going to go and see - it's their GI Joe.
Besides, it's not like there won't be some parts fans of ARAH will like. I had a nice little fannish glow moment when Quaid's Hawk said "And knowing is half the battle..."

Let the movie stand on it's own, don't judge it by what it's not (ARAH and what our generation would have liked.). It's not our Joe movie, it's the next generations.
25 years from now, I want to be at Joecon and be able to debate with a new Joe fan the merits of ARAH Duke versus RoC Duke.
And then we can both turn to that 10 year old kid who became a Joe fan because of a new movie and tell him "your Joe sucks".

Ok so lets stop posting about it then. Everyone has said there peace so can we drop it now !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we can lock this topic now. It is a pointless discussion now till the movie comes out. Nobody can change either sides minds. So this is getting retarded now. We all have our opines on this. So when the movie hits ,we can say what we liked and what we hated. this is getting redundant!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
MODS PLEASE LOCK IT.

Gi joe is everything gijoe ever was, and it's going to continue to change, when your nephew is in his 30s and Hasbro makes another cartoon he'll probably hate it too...

Well, at first I was a little worried about what the movie was really about, did they just copy ironman, made a team of ironmen and called them Gi Joe...
...Now we got some more trailers and most important, we got reviews by people who seen the movie, a screening.
And it sounds good, sure some got bad reviews, but the "bad" in those reviews isn't alarming to me.
People are attacking Wayans as his preformance as an actor...
An actor is given a script on how he should play a character, you guys really think that Marlon Wayans created the character Jar Jar Binks?
No, George Lucas did.
And George Lucas grip, on any of the characters in his starwars universe is tighter that any cornrow Wayans ever had on his head, do you really think they gave him the role and said, hey, you're going to play an alien in starwars, put on a costume and go improvise, we don't care...
Sorry, til this day there isn't a line in a book, movie, cartoon, comic, action figure, mug, t-shirt or bumper sticker that doesn't need a personal approval from George Lucas to exist.
An actor acts after the script and direction he's given, if the director ain't satisfied with the actors preformance then they'll re-shoot the scene.
My guess is that you have already seen Starwars ep1, now look at the type of role Wayans had to play in that movie and compare it with the role he played in "Requiem for a Dream".
That's solid proof of a good actor, he can play different parts and very different roles. He can act seriously and goofy when the director want him to do so.
As I said before in a previous post, I'm waiting to see what he'll bring to the movie besides being "funny"...
