You know what? I agree.
All this fighting and bickering is actually starting to affect how I view GI Joe as a whole. It seems like there's a weird sort of 'members only' feeling that's creeping in, that if you're not pro ROC or whatever, then you're not welcomed to be a fan anymore. I think in being fair? You can't blame either the defenders or the haters because it takes two to have a spat. Of course having such controversary is good for sites like this as it generates interest, it does cause a lot of hard feelings toward people you don't even really know. For the record, if I ever attacked anyone? I apologize. I don't think I did, I kept my venom reserved mostly for the movie - but if I ruined someone's Hisstank experience? I'll man up and apologize for it. We really shouldn't let something as stupid as a movie split fandom. GI Joe has always really been about the toys right? Anything else can be detached no matter if it's the cartoon, the comics, or the movie. As long as there are toys on the shelves, That should be all that matters. We were united before ROC right? So I don't see any reason why we can't be after. To do my part in reducing the tension around here, I'll keep my remarks to myself until after I've seen the movie. Fair enough? so like i said im done with the oh no the movie is better cuse of blah blah blah or it will sucks cuse of blah blah blah. we dont matter to hasbro or hama or anyone for that matter. we buy what we like, see what we like, and thats it. at the end of the day we are just fans of one thing G i joe toys. |

Because this is a GI Joe forum and Hasbro owns GI Joe. I wager if you annoy them? You can say good-bye to exclusive news, pics, and other tid-bits. I can only assume that the staff here enjoys somewhat of a warm relationship with reps and such, and again - if Hasbro thought this site was mocking a multi-million dollar enterprise associated with one of their brands? That relationship would get quite frosty. Such is the way of politics.
I have always posted constructive criticism, and as far as reps, I've never come into contact with one. If I'm disappointed in something I'll say it, I just don't see how I can judge the movie yet when I have not even seen it. |

Writing and directing are to totally different jobs. If you are saying that he cant direct it as he does not have the experience then I agree. I don't think that would be a natural progression for him at this point.
But if you are saying he cannot write it then I am going to have to strongly disagree. By your own admission he can write Superhero movies as he wrote a kick ass Superman film. As far as calling the man a chicken - well I was wondering if you knew him, I only ask because I do and I can assure you that he is not afraid of any project so I am not sure what facts you are referring to. He is very tongue in cheek and aware of his place in pop culture and plays into that. So I would not take what he says in interviews to serious. He has a flair to be overly dramatic in how he says things. Anyway, I do agree with what you are saying about the Fanboys. |

Why didn't they roll it out in May when the summer blockbuster season began? Of course I concede that last argument if the film wasn't finished yet.

Ah, my bad. I must have misunderstood all those posts and threads which praise it and badmouth people who have a different opinion. I guess members who create threads like "Marlon Wayans is going to be a cool Ripcord" must have seen an advance screening in order to make such a positive judgement call.
There are some people who are neither hater nor defender, just guys willing to give the damn movie a chance. I thought Sky Crawlers would rule but was VERY disappointed afterwards, and I thought TF wasn't going to be good but ended up loving it. So I'm going to see Rise of Cobra to see how it turns out for myself. This whole labeling thing has become ridiculous. |

And the only thing that the movie doesn't have that the comics had is the vintage ARAH uniforms. The rest of it is all there.
The movie creates a new storyline that could very easily fit into a run of the marvel comic (talking plot, not specific characters, I know I have to spell that part out because there are some that have to be told...). What issue did Breaker become Moroccan? What issue did the Joes become some international U.N./NATO crap? What issue did the Joes faster ten years into the future? What issue did Scarlett become Canadian? What issue did the Joes get accelerator suits in? What issue did Ripcord turn into a black guy? What issue did Dr. Rex get disfigured in? What issue was it revealed that Dr. Rex's name was Dr. Rex When will accept the fact that this isn't G.I. Joe? |

If it didnt have the characters the whole GIJoe world would be whining even more than they already are.... I cant wait till this movie blows over so I can stop reading stupid pointless whiny posts.

Well, I don't want to get an infraction for derailing the conversation on Kevin Smith........ so I will say this - short and sweet: As per what Echo said if we want to discuss the merits of Kevin Smith we should do it in another thread so open one up and we can spar over there. I would gladly defend the man and prove you wrong. So out of respect for the Mods I wont comment again...cause once we get into it.....this will become a Kevin Smith Thread! I triple dog dare you to open up a thread, anyone?

What issue was it revealed that Dr. Rex's name was Dr. Rex When will accept the fact that this isn't G.I. Joe? It has to be a literal interpretation? /sigh It's hopeless. It's like those horses with blinders on. One way only. If it's not a direct interpretation of ARAH, it's garbage. RoC is G.I. Joe because it has all the elements that made G.I. Joe so much fun in the first place. If you can't see that, I'm sorry. Are they the EXACT same details as before? No. There are new details and new versions, but the SPIRIT is the same. Be upset that it's not what you wanted as a Joe movie. But you cannot say that it is not a Joe movie because the people responsible for G.I. Joe (which is not us, never has been us and never will be us) and who decides what is G.I. joe have deemed this to be G.I. Joe. End of the day, it is what it is. I think it's going to be a nice addition to the G.I. Joe brand. It in no way, shape or form affects my enjoyment of the ARAH or 25th/ME lines. I still have all my memories intact and always will have. Now they're being joined by new memories of seeing kids picking Joes up off the shelves and getting as much enjoyment from them that I did as a kid. Like I've said before, there are parts of RoC that I don't like, but I'm going to give the movie a chance because from what I've seen and read, it's going to be a fun/enjoyable movie and be a good addition to the Joe brand. End of the day, all this hatred towards it because it's not a DIRECT and EXACT interpretation of ARAH (cartoons, comics, figures, whatever) is just giving fanboys a bad name. It's kind of sad that change isn't accepted. Not all change is going to be something that you personally like, that's just the way of things. Do you read comic books? Are you always happy with the new writer, artist and/or change of directions that occur every other month it seems? Comic companies (just like toy companies) do things to increase sales. If they lose 3 fans, that's okay as long as they gain 5 new ones (net gain of +2 sales). It's a business. And we're a very small percentage of that business. And it's called opinion. Hate it all you want. Like it all you want. It doesn't matter, it's your opinion. But the second you come on a public forum and deride people for liking it, then that's when you come across as an arrogant jerk and really give the fan & collector community a badname.
