This is actually getting pretty funny, if not incredibly boring. We have people who hate the movie before they have seen it arguing with people who don't actually like the movie (how could they, no-one here has seen it so far). Most of the supporters aren't stating the movie will be good, only that they are holding out to make an informed decision based on the actual final product. That is to say, despite all the potential flaws, all that we already know that may be questionable or cringe-worthy, or all the changes being made to the brand, they are reserving the right to wait and see the actual film for themselves.
Why do the supporters get so mad at the haters? Because they give no room for anything outside of their pre-conceived boundaries of how far the creators of G.I. Joe can alter their universe. Also, because there are a number of them who cannot let someone state something positive about the film without trying to bash it down.
Now, I understand there are plenty of people who think poorly of the movie that do not stoop to berating their fellow tankers and state why they feel this way without being unnecessarily argumentative. I don't include these people as haters because they have every right to their opinion and it is good to explore both sides of a debate. I also feel that there are supporters that are arrogant and unnecessarily bash the detractors. These 20 page long threads that are just a super long pissing contest (I mean some of us are in different countries! How do you tell who pissed farther?) are entertaining, but eventually get personal. There is no reason to personally attack someone because of an opinion of a movie or toy...its like by being a fan of G.I. Joe you are forever stuck being 8 years old.
I'm not saying anyone in this thread personally attacked someone, but in the past couple of months, people are getting pissy on this site! I joined last september after I found a comic pack at TRU and was brought back into my childhood passion. I happened to find the tank and quickly found a place I could come and hang out online where people actually respected each other and their opinions. This is beginning to change and I want the old tank back.
If you have an opinon one way or the other, great! Post it and let us know how you feel, but if someone responds to that with an insult or in a way that is meant to be hateful or hurtful...let it go...

I know what the the skeptics are saying, trust me I understand. But what it all comes down to is that feeling you get when your at the store with your parents, (or in most of are cases, by ourselves.) You find your favorite figure, you buy it, go home and play all day long w/ the rest of your Joes and or Cobra.
I guess what I am trying to say is if there is something other then Poke"mon or some of the other retard crap kids have been playing with, so be it. I am happy with with the return of the Joes/Cobra!

The bolded part is what I have an issue with, and what gets me going. I don't care if you don't like the movie, that's fine, whatever, but don't come down on someone else because they do.
The movie is not what I wanted a live action Joe movie to be. I understand and accept that there have to be changes when translating to live action/big screen. I'm fine with that. Some of the changes I like, some are growing on me, and some I don't like.
I actually don't like the A-Suits and wish they'd stop showing that scene in the streets of Paris with Duke and Ripcord flipping around the missiles. Does that mean the entire movie is going to suck? Of course not. 1 scene out of the whole movie doesn't make or break the movie. I can get over the A-Suits because the rest of it has interested me.
It's still not what I wanted, but it's looking like it's going to be a good Joe movie and I'll judge it on that, not looking thru glasses tinted by "not being what I wanted".

But the SS/SE rivalry was changed majorly from the comics and doesn't fit the cartoon very well either. The show had elements of both continuties but was sort of an idealized version.
The Movie seems a lot more interesting over all.

Don't you know that grown men liking toys isn't logical? ;)

Just read the entire thread and I just wanted to add my comments.
I'm new here, and I joined BECAUSE my son (7) has just recently gotten into GI JOE. Why? Because of the movie.
Yes, he has just bought his first GI JOE figure...the figure that most of us had first because he was just so cool. Snake Eyes.
He has Storm Shadow too and we have been steadily building. Oh he's thrilled, and loves the adventure, the soldiers fighting bad guys...the dangers, the unique villians...etc. All the things that make GI JOE so much fun.
I grew up with 80's Joe, so I have fond memories of GI JOE vs. COBRA. I admit to being disillusioned with the movie when I saw trailers, (and more importantly knowing who directed it...Van Helsing? Yuck.) BUT...
And this is the important part...
MY son thought the trailers were awesome and just really wanted to see MORE!
He read a few of the new GI JOE books, just devoured them...and is constantly asking me questions about these characters....
I always preface my answers with, "Well in the cartoon I used to watch..." or "In the comic books from when I was growing up..."
Which is fine with him.
I love the excitement he feels and would never take that awy from him. It's not mine, it's his. I had mine.
And while I HATE the look of the new Cobra Commander and think that Arnold Vosloo would be an AWESOME Zartan in appropriate garb, not as he looks...and miss the half-masked Cobra soldiers that shout COBRA!!!! .... (And where's Major Blud and the Dreadnoks?) , I can set that aside and enjoy this with my son.
Plus I get play with 3 3/4 inch GI JOE figures again.
That's pretty cool.
I just hope the movie is (at least) enjoyable...and watchable. Doesn't have to be perfect. My son makes it perfect by being excited about it. That's pretty cool to me.
So now you know...

All this fighting and bickering is actually starting to affect how I view GI Joe as a whole. It seems like there's a weird sort of 'members only' feeling that's creeping in, that if you're not pro ROC or whatever, then you're not welcomed to be a fan anymore.
I think in being fair? You can't blame either the defenders or the haters because it takes two to have a spat. Of course having such controversary is good for sites like this as it generates interest, it does cause a lot of hard feelings toward people you don't even really know.
For the record, if I ever attacked anyone? I apologize. I don't think I did, I kept my venom reserved mostly for the movie - but if I ruined someone's Hisstank experience? I'll man up and apologize for it.
We really shouldn't let something as stupid as a movie split fandom. GI Joe has always really been about the toys right? Anything else can be detached no matter if it's the cartoon, the comics, or the movie. As long as there are toys on the shelves, That should be all that matters. We were united before ROC right? So I don't see any reason why we can't be after.
To do my part in reducing the tension around here, I'll keep my remarks to myself until after I've seen the movie.
