I for one think it's very doable. Look, we have movies with a guy who hangs off of buildings in red and blue fighting a gremlin in green and purple. Translated to the screen pretty well. We have movies where a guy flies around in a red and gold metallic suit. Translated to the screen pretty well. We have movies where a guy flies around in a blue suit with red underpants and while it didn't do so well (IMO), it wasn't because of the suit. I certainly think given the above, translating a story where most of the good guys wear some form of military garb would work just fine. Quote:
Does any form of entetainment really stem from something that important?
The Godfather. It's a book. Get over it. I think some changes Hasbro has made to the franchise over the years through various comics, cartoons, and now a movie have been good and some not so much. If I don't like something, I don't shake my fists to the heavens screaming"Whyyyyyyyy?", but if it's so insignificant to you, why come to a fansite celebrating it? Quote:
That the movie had to reinvent the franchise and change established lore was never my problem with it... or at least I'm over the fact it had to evolve... From everything that I've seen and read it just looks like a lousy film; whether it follows the Marvel continuity or not... Everything about the movie, seems to me to be completely forgettable, washed away once the next big blockbuster rolls around... I don't see the kids of today latching onto this the way we were absorbed by the 80's incarnation. It just looks way too generic and uninspired to make any kind of real dent into pop-culture.

and yet, he has no problem criticizing the audience for G.I. Joe, which runs counter to any claims of blindly supporting the movie for his own gain if he was simply trying to garner interest in the movie.
yet another example of how the complainers don't possess the logic to understand the hypocrisy of their positions and have to ignore (or more accurately simply can't see) all the other evidence that disputes their positions. well done again, guys, well done. we've been arguing about this movie for almost two years and you still haven't come up with one valid point that your own arguments aren't contradicted by other empirical evidence. you guys really should try and think through what you are going to say before you post it. I'd also point out that I've made several arguments that I think are completely valid throughout the course of the past year or two. Quote:

If the movie sucks its not like its gonna "kill" everything from the past.
Look..Ghost Rider was retarded, Ben Affleck absolutely murdered Matt Murdock, we STILL havent seen a "spot on" Punisher movie and it took The Hulk 2 movies to get it right... If the movie genuinely sucks, if you personally dont like it what is the worst thing thats gonna happen?? Do you think more 25th style figures are riding on this? The Joe name has been around for a long time, whatever changes and new versions are presented..so be it. Nothing is going to single handedly destroy your personal collection or the place it holds in your heart. . I agree that if the movie sucks, we'll likely get another one at some point. My point has always been, that didn't have to happen. If they'd treated the franchise with respect, like Iron Man, it could have been awesome. I don't think they did, and I don't think it will be. And that's disappointing to me, and I have every right to be disappointed. But yes, I do think more 25th figures are riding on this. Because if the movie property tanks, so does the 25th line. Absolutely. Nothing can destroy my collection or the place it holds in my heart (except fire and Alzheimer's ), but a sinking movie can destroy my ability to get more 25th figures in the short term. Quote:
(I mean that in the best way possible, btw) That's a point I absolutely can't dispute!!! And I think it goes to show, even with us "haters" mouthing off all the time, we're not destroying the 'Tank, so let us have our opinion, you can have yours and we can all talk about it civilly. Word? Word!

there have been numerous others, as well, who have managed to articulate their dislike for the movie in a reasonable manner. my contention has never been with anyone who isn't interested in the movie. unfortunately, you are being drowned out by a contingent of raving imbeciles.

And everybody would use color-coded laser rifles which would never hit anything, and instead of the unrealistic nanomites we'd have something far more plausible, like the Weather Dominator and Fatal Fluffies and a giant mile-wide germ, and instead of enhanced Neo-Vipers we'd have B.A.T.s and kitchen Vipers! |

Wait, you think Larry Hama's Facebook is fake? Despite the fact that it contains numerous updates on the Cons he attends, and pictures of him there, that it is regularly updated, it discusses work he has in progress, etc etc...there's just no conceivable way it is fake. If it WAS fake, it has been so exposed that the "real" Larry Hama would've been alerted to its presence and able to shut it down. But hey, you never tend to let anything like logic slow you down. Why start now?

You're being unfairly melodramatic in portraying how the "haters" feel. The argument isn't that it will retroactively destroy the past. It's that by revamping everything in a way that in our opinion makes it less appealing, they're treating it with little, if any, respect.

Absolutely. Nothing can destroy my collection or the place it holds in my heart (except fire and Alzheimer's ), but a sinking movie can destroy my ability to get more 25th figures in the short term. I can completely understand that. I'd rather just go ahead and say hey this is the G.I. Joe for the new generation. If it does half as well as the Joe Verse I grew up with, these kids will have it alright. As far as the 25th line goes, if this movie bombs, you will see the RoC line on the clearance rack faster then you can say Yo Joe. I'm sure that doesnt mean waves and waves of 25th style figures to save face but they have done pretty damn good with everything they have introduced. I think this will give way to 7 packs and online exclusives...here and there. I dont think ANY of that assumption can have people leaning one way or another until atleast Oct. |

" - this is like an extreme...you picked some of the wackiest episode points...it doesnt have to be Bats, just reg.blueshirts or Vipers even...the plot isnt the worst thing for me...I dont think the majority of us want it EXACTLY the same (with the colored guns and always missing) just the LOOK of the rah line

Larry Hama has a "group" on Facebook that I have joined, lots of up to date info and recent pics.
He also has a member profile which is a picture of him about 15-20 years ago. Apparently at the moment he is reading a book called 2666 by Roberto Bolano and is "blown away". Im just pissed because I added him yesterday and wrote a heartfelt message on his wall and in return he told me he was blown away by some stupid book!! I think the Larry Hama group/fan page is legit. His personal page though...I dont know, I think its a cross between Faker from MOTU and a Doombot. |

that's because Larry Hama is a reasonable man who is not stuck in 1985. he understands what G.I. Joe is because he played a part in creating it, and because so, what it can be. he isn't handicapped by narrow and outdated ideas simply because he grew up with them because he understands that it is far more complex and dynamic than some wish it were.
if the man himself doesn't regard everything he created as gospel and understands that creating a G.I. oe in 2009 isn't the same as creating one in 1983, why can't some of you? |
