Screenrant has an interesting article today where they talk to the director and cast of Bumblebee. If you don't want to click, basically, the writer tells them he has a theory that Cena is actually Duke. The director does a very coy "can't confirm or deny" and Cena encourages Screenrant to run with the news, claiming he has no control but he is a huge fan of both properties and a fan of the idea of a crossover. There are no flat denials and the hemming and hawing are VERY encouraging to me. I really like Cena and think he would do a good job in the role, especially if he's surrounded by a good cast and the movie is handled as well as it sounds like they did with Bumblebee...

Personally I think people are reading too much into it. I definitely don't think Cena is playing Duke. Which in a way I am glad because Cena does nothing for me. I do think the smart approach (to launching a shared universe) would have been to do something subtle like this but unfortunately I don't think the smart approach works for Hasbro or Paramount. Otherwise I think it would have been done with the original 2007 TF film or least in one of the 5 atrocities they call movies. My reasoning for thinking this is based on the fact that Cena's character is referred to as agent Burns where Duke's file name is Conrad "Duke" Hauser. Now obviously they can change Duke's name to whatever they want but again I think the way to go would have been to simply have just referred to him as Sergeant Hauser or agent Hauser giving the hardcore fans subtle nod or Easter egg if you will.

It is an interesting theory. I hope we at least get a bone tossed our way.
Guess I will know for certain on the 22nd. The 21st I will most likely go see the GIJOE related flick "Welcome to Marwen".

If I'm wrong, so be it... but I have a hard time giving these filmmakers credit for something like that.

Haven’t read the article but I wish people would stop trying to tie G.I. Joe and Transformers together for a movie. As much as I have liked most Joe/Transformers comics, to me (my version/universe) both of these properties do not exist in the same universe.

I don't necessarily think he's Duke, but I think there's a good chance he's revealed to be a founding member of a GI Joe team. As far as why it wasn't done in the earlier TFs, it was directly because Michael Bay was against it. He is not directing Bumblebee or any follow-ups, just producing. I felt like Josh Duhamel was a perfect Flint in the other TF movies.
As far as if I'd ideally like GI Joe to exist in this movie world, eh, I was never a huge fan of the crossovers myself. I do see a potential to set up a GI Joe franchise through TF, though, and that's good for all of us.

If Cena would be a new G.I. Joe character created for the live action Joe film. I wouldn't mind seeing it and since Bumblebee movie is set in the late 80s that means G.I. Joe on media needs to be the 80’s kid nostalgia. Why don't we post our thoughts to Paramount Pictures of what was our thoughts about two live action Joe films. In two live action Joe films, the designs of characters they were horrible like they are absolutely unrecognizable to the fans at all. We're going have to demand a live action G.I. Joe series set in the 80s so they can bring on the Dreadnoks.
