So it's only been a week, and the movie's not out yet and alot hinges on how well the movie is received (no "movie sucks" comments please, have no place in this thread), but so far from the comments seen it looks like RoC is accomplishing it's goal.
The goal was to get kids back into G.I. Joe and from some of the comments, that appears to be happening, and will only increase with the release of the movie. And that's a good thing.

I completely agree with you man.
It seems a lot of people, especially a lot of us here have changed our tunes when it came to the figures. I personally still only plan on buying certain figures, but the fact that the ROc line is doing well is great news. In the end as GI Joe fans we should want ROC to succeed. It will only further bolster the brand and hopefully generate more modern and resolute figures in the future along with the ROC line. Its a godo possibility since SW and TF figures have different lines running at the same time, and by the sounds of it in time it will happen! So its a very good thing!

I have to say, last week, even before the ROC toys hit the shelves, I saw a little kid running through Target carrying the exclusive Tiger Rat. It was almost as big as he was. I was walking past the greeting card aisles and they had some ROC stickers on an endcap. This kid couldn't wait to run over and grab them. That is one kid who loves G.I. Joe.
I've never understood why people had so much hate towards the ROC figures. I don't get taking a stance on them one way or the other. If you like them, buy them. If you don't like them, don't buy them. I think some of the ROC figures are great. So those are the ones I buy. The ones I'm not too crazy about, I skip. And, Blay is totally right. And I know Troynos has been saying it all along. ROC succeeding is a good thing for Joe fans. Last edited by lister; 07-08-2009 at 09:34 AM.. |

I disagree...... just because tankers here bought the Mass produced ROC figures does not mean it accomplished any goal...once again, will the kids buy? Once the collectors are done,
how much product is gonna sit on the shelves? Just because you enjoy something personally, does not mean its a success...why not wait a while than jump to conclusions and see how the movie does? |

There have been alot of comments from people that have been in the stores and seen kids buying and looking at RoC toys. That's an early indication that the line is accomplishing it's gool. There have been comments about kids buying the toys, looking at 'em and some Tankers saying their own kids are loving 'em. The sales figures right now are collectors. But that's not the point. RoC is meant to get the kids back into it, and from the early indications, it's working. It's only been a week and the movie isn't out yet, and there are reports of more kid-Joe activity then has been seen in years. That's a good sign.

Did you not read the whole post? It's got nothing to do with the collectors.

ROC will be what Sigma 6 was supposed to be. Kids are going to eat it up.
It's not ARAH. The 25th Anniversary figs were there just to snooker as many collectors over to ROC as possible. |

once again, DISAGREE, as few kids that might be looking at and buying ROC, there is MORE not looking at and buying them....Until the movie hits, then we'll talk about any accomplishment..from working in a toy store...the true accomplishment was transformers...you couldnt keep it in stock....when joe moves off the shelf like that, then its an accomplishment...the Love of Joe here has blinded you of hope that it will be a success...WAIT and then SEE
A month before the movie comes out, been on the shelves a week, and there's been alot of interest. That's an EARLY indication, and it's a good thing. If you read the original post, I do clarify that alot hinges on the movie and I do say that it "seems like it's happening". So I haven't qualified it as a success, just said it's looking it it's accomplishing it's goal. That's the point of an EARLY indication, nothing's been accomplished yet, but the interest is there and the movie hasn't even premiered yet.

valid points, but the fact that some kids are buying is a positive start, I know with my kids, toys can be contagious.Once they see their friends with one then they want one. although I'm not a fan of the ROC toys, except for a select few, the fact that some kids buying before the movie is a really good sign. How was TF sales before the 1st movie? Granted probally better due to the cartoons, but I don't think they were nearly as popular until the movie hit. So yes let's wait and see..... but there are signs of hope.

No one's saying that the overall line is a success yet. No one's claiming it's disappeared from shelves or that the real test won't be after the movie hits. They're saying that there are early indications that it might be successful though. Heck, it's already more successful than some of the hyperbolic predictions that the naysayers were tossing around in the past few months. BTW, Transformers movie product was not so great an accomplishment as you make out...it was largely Hasbro's underestimating the demand that led to the shortages. If Hasbro had given it a "full fledged" movie roll-out (as they have with TF2 and RoC), the shortages would likely never have occurred. Once production met demand, you could easily find TF movie product on shelves. Instead, they gave it an "Iron Man" or "X-Men Origins: Wolverine" level roll-out and initially treated it like it was a "B-list" movie property. Not a mistake they're going to make twice. |
