I'm only a third through it as I've been working long hours and fell asleep last night, but I have to say it's pretty cool thus far. Highlights THUS FAR:
-Storm Shadow is bad ass. Stealthy, confident and says "Baroness was his best student!" -Baroness is indeed a vindictive, touch bad ass..the ex you never want to mess with lol. -"The Doctor" is the brain and is indeed a frightening figure that will apparently earn his future position in blood. The origin shaping up is also interesting. -Duke is not the superhero-esque leader (yet anyway) that he has been..he is portaryed as being young, brash with issues but a strong resolve. Very cool depiction. -Hawk is The Man to me. I can see Quaid with every line I'm reading. This is the way I've actually always envisioned Hawk...the brains behind the Joes, letting his field leader do his job, while he masterminded the teams operations. If Hawk has to go into the field, the shites getting thick. -My only real negative is Ripcord. His presence as the comedic sidekick not only ruins the story and characters roots, it also really detracts from Duke as well. -Snake Eyes has not been overdone just yet. GI Joe seems to be a team and not just "Snake Eyes & Company". -Zartan is weird. Kind of interesting depiction..hope he becomes more of a feared enemy. -Destro's origin is very cool. You can see where he's coming from as a bad guy. I'll probably finish it the next sitting and follow up with closing thoughts. I'm interested on others takes as well. |

This will be merged with the other novel threads, be warned.
I've finished it, just wait. Everything makes sense in the end. And CC... wow.... I'm more excited to see the movie after reading it. After reading it, I got more into the whole RoC thing. All the various oddities work well in the context of the RoC universe once all the pieces are revealed and put together. I actually like Ripcord. His comedic moments don't detract from anything and I think he works as the perfect foil for Duke to help ground Duke and not make him so serious all the time. Although, the part with the cow, could have done without that, lol. Breaker was the one that I didn't like. He came across as weasely to me.

I'm cool with merging..apologies to the Staff for not thinking of it myself. I'm really, REALLY excited about this movie. And the cow was a little...unnecessary lol. |
