Enough with RIPCORD

I posted this thread because I was tired of this 'RIPCORD ISSUE" being posted on my threads and posts and I would have to respond and then defend what I have said and watch the thread turn to crap. I even had a thread of "the most pathetic GI Joe figure or series" and Ripcord was posted by someone in it, I responded and then someone else took offense and then posted Breaker on there. I noticed this was becoming an issue in a lot of threads on the tank.

This is what I posted on my thread.

"Why Ripcord then? They could have changed any GI Joe character. Ripcord was an established toy figure and the story why they did not cast him as "Stalker" because of the name is just STUPID. They should of made an new character for him to play and make a new figure, or there are other plenty of GI Joe African American characters to play, like Alpine, Doc, Roadblock, Iceberg, Hardball, Dee-Jay, Stretcher, Bullet-Proof, Double Blast, the infamous Colonel Courage (the list goes on) would have worked. There were many African American character Joes to choose from. I think they should have come up with a new character that would have worked better.

Just be glad he was not called Ice Cream Soldier, what would they think of then ;)"

SO, Here is this thread so all you who have a compliant or "issue" with RIPCORD can POST HERE. If you want to talk about BREAKER, start your own thread.

here is a link about Ripcord in the comics along with some of his images.
G.I. Joe Comics Home Page: Ripcord

He was an established character in the comics and the cartoons since 1984.
Down below are the two figures made by HASBRO of him.

Here is the question
What is the P.C. way of talking about these figures?
Also since this is a TOY, think of this, How do you explain the change to your kids?

Kids aren't as critical as adults who play with toys are. Anyone's kid isn't going to feel that the "movie raped their childhood" as Ripcord came out before they were born.

Why should anyone post their problem with Ripcord here and not in the 1 of 90345345439058493 other negative threads going on right now?

I'm not sure too many kids would know who the original Ripcord is.... besides, it wouldn't be the first time the Joes re-used a code-name for a different character... I remember there being two Sneak-Peaks- one toy with that giant green... whatever it was... and then another from the comics (DDP) that ended up having some face time with a bullet. I like to think of the new Ripcord as the Joes just recycling a code-name. I mean really, how much time do you thing and elite SF team has to sit around and think up code-names?

Like I say in the intro, Because one of my threads (like many others) was on pathetic GI Joe figures and series and was not negative as this issue portrays, and this issue was put into it for no reason. This "issue" turns the threads to a pile of CRAP, so complain on this thread.

I'm not so much offended by Marlon Wayans being casted as Ripcord as I am Marlon Wayans being cast in a GI Joe movie.

I hate everything about the movie ripcord. I hate that they changed a white guy with red hair that had a detailed history to a wise cracking black guy. I hate that Wayans is playing him. If they needed a comic relief wise cracking black guy, then why didn't they just create one from scratch?

I defiantly agree about casting a Waynes brother as any GI Joe- just judging from the (god awfully horrible) movies the brothers have starred in/directed- ugh. It really just leaves a bad taste in my mouth- bad casting IMO

As one not caring for the politics of much of Hollywood or any of their propaganda off screen, I determine someone's acting ability based on their performance.

Getting bent out of shape about their being cast as a character in a movie just seems silly. Don't see it or make your own movie and then you can decide who to cast.

Been amazing to see all the griping about the movie figs being horrible and then see all these threads with people running around trying to find them. I guess some just like to gripe.

Naive I may be, but I like the new Bumblebee and a Chevy Camaro is a long way from a VW Bug. Don't get me wrong, I love me some VW Bug cartoon Bumblebee. But I like the new Big Screen Hot Rod mute Bumblebee too!

I say wait and see.

I think we're going to get exactly the performance we expect out of Mr. Wayans.

I tried to make my own movie, but not having the rights or the millions of dollars it would have taken, things just kinda fell apart. :P

It's only amazing if you connected each person running around searching for RoC toys to comments they made earlier about never buying the toys. Without that, for all we know these are completely different people.

People don't tend to hate the car mode rather than the horrible wirey mess he turns into in robot mode.

I like to be a tad more proactive than that.

Whats funny is that GI JOE is a brand that is considered for children. We the collectors are looked down upon as being weird or creepy for collecting toys. We are being stereotyped one notch above a child molester. Yes, I have heard people call collectors that. I was with some friends that are all sports nuts and they were cracking on the Hot Wheels collectors calling them pedophiles. Its scary how we are so quick to label everyone and anyone.
But we collectors argue and defend that we are not what people see how we are portrayed on screen or what-knot.

Now Marlon Wayons is a pretty decent actor knocking it out of the ballpark with: Requiem for a Dream. Why do we want to stereotype him as a bad actor because of the comedies he has done! The hate for Marlon Wayans is silly and nonsensical. He is an actor and he plays a role in a film. he can do silly comedy and heavy drama - now lets see him play it down the middle with GI JOE.
