Aye, to all the haters out there on the new movie...I was in TRU today scoring wave one of the ROC line. As I was picking through the pegs for a decent painted Cover Girl (fully shortpacked, BTW: grab her when you see her!!) a kid and his grandma came up and he was be-fraking-ond excited to get the 12" Duke figure. Watching a kid get that stoked for Joe toys (something I've never witnessed while hunting 25e Anniversary toys) made me smile. He was giddy all the way through the cash line, staring intently at it and prattling on to his grandma about Joes.
May not mean much in the long run....but if nothing else, I hope he's one of many to come.

So this little kid fully made your day and you followed him all the way to the cash register?

Well look at it this way, the movie was made the way it was in order to lure in kids. This is the main reason why it's not like "our" ARAH G.I. Joe. Everything about this movie from the toys and their packaging to bedding supplies and party favors was geared towards kids. Look at all of the spring loaded weapons as well.
I think that Hasbro got their money's worth out of us through the 25th Anniversary and Modern Era line. I'm sure those figures only appealed to a small percentage of kids. Toys that don't have a current cartoon or movie attached to them usually don't sell well with kids. This is one of the main reasons that Mattel didn't release their MOTU classics line in stores. They didn't think that the kids would want them or know who the He-Man characters were without a current cartoon to go along with them. I think that the movie will definately get the kids of today into G.I. Joe, but this will be their version of G.I. Joe, not ours. Just think about how the original 12-inch Joe fans from the 60's felt when the ARAH figures were released in the 80's. I'm sure most of our dads were telling us "hey that's not G.I. Joe"! That's the same way I felt when G.I. Joe Extreme came out as well as Sigma 6. I feel that same way again today with ROC. Like I've been saying in other threads, I will go and see ROC but it will not be G.I. Joe to me no matter what the movie is like. I felt the same way about the Transformers movies. I loved them, but since they weren't G1 I felt as if I was just watching any ole big f-ing robots try to take over the world. They just didn't happen to be Autobots and Decepticons to me.
