I have been a staunch supporter Rise of Cobra from the beginning. Whenever anyone slammed the movie, I jumped in to defend it without reservation, stating that we shouldn't judge the movie until we actually see it. And I still feel this way.
However, I have to admit that I'm losing more and more faith with each clip or trailer released. My biggest gripe is that it seems to be more about the tech and less about skills. This is possibly just due to the filmmakers using the flashiest aspects to construct the trailers, but it's not doing the film any favors. It feels like the filmmakers have said, "we just need a bunch of Matrix-like stunts; to hell with the skills of the characters." I hope I'm wrong. My other major gripe is that they completely made Cobra Commander look like a joke. How could they go wrong with him? Is it really that hard to modernize his hooded or helmeted look? Both of those looked fine and could have been easily translated to a different medium. But instead, they decided to make him look like a laughable goon. Minor gripes include the homogenization of Zartan (why take one of the most distinctive-looking characters and strip him of that), Marlon Wayans (I held out hopes that he'd be doing some serious acting, but it looks to be in vein), and Baroness being so naive as to think that Snake-Eyes gave up during the big car chase scene). I'm trying to be optimistic still, but it's becoming more difficult all the time.

Interesting thoughts as I'm going the other way. The more I see of the film, the more convinced I become that it will be a fun ride, despite being a re-imagining of the Joe Universe. I don't know how many people have skimmed the latest review on Ain't It Cool News (beware of spoilers!!!), but that gave me further hope that we're getting a fun movie and something that will be embraced and help to carry on the brand. Sure - I don't know that I will like every character's look in the movie, but I also don't know that I would have liked seeing them try to recreate Cobra Commander's comic-based look in the movie. I have a feeling it would have come off looking pretty silly. Maybe I'll feel the same way about his new look - but if that is my biggest complaint then I'm probably pretty happy with the new film.

Same here. Harry's review on AICN and the recent slew of clips are actually helping me warm up to this movie. Before I was one of the many who thought they were trampling the Joe I knew and loved. Now, I'm kind of looking forward to the movie and I'm hoping it turns out good. Still have some complaints for sure, but it can't be anywhere near as bad as Transformers right?

Cynthia, you just said two opposite (contradictory) things. My advice is as you said, wait to see the movie and then make up your mind if you like or dislike the movie.

So far, nobody seems to be praising the acting ability of the actors and actresses in ROC. It must've been intentional to focus on the action and technology. Transformers did ok by relying mostly on animation and action. As for the skills of the characters, it seems that only the ninjas are really skilled in the movie altho the trailers do claim that each Joe member is highly skilled so maybe some Joe members cheated on their resumes. In the competition for scarce jobs, cheating on resumes is quite common.

I don't understand why the good guys need the edge. I would've excepted the asselerator suit had they been on M.A.R.S troopers. The bad guys should be the ones that need the edge. The good guys should be the underdogs, the ones who fight harder. They shouldn't need those 'Steroid Suits'. Besides that, I'm going in with low expectations, that seems to work for me, and enjoy it. Going to watch G.I.Joe, is like going on a blind date with a girl you know to much about and you don't wanna be rude and back out. I won't disappoint this ugly girl, she might pick up the tab.

I kind of wondered where the whole accelerator suit thing came from. I thought maybe they were trying to bring in an Iron Man or Transformers vibe to the movie.

I don't know where I stand as of today. On the one hand, I don't really care for the changes, the accelerator suits, or even the black body armor. I hate them in fact.
But I've read both the prequel and movie novelization and they weren't so bad. They're not Shakespeare, but the story far surpasses the cartoons. I hate the Paris chase scenes we keep getting in the trailers, but I cannot wait to see Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow go toe to toe. I hate Cobra Commander as portrayed in this movie, I hate the vipers, but I'm hopiong we're in for a more traditional look with the second film when Cobra is in full force. I was driving up the 57 freeway last week on my way to work when I spotted a billboard depicting Snake Eyes, sword in one hand and pistol in the other firing at an unseen enemy. I have to admit that the billboard had me thinking this could really be a cool movie and I just don't know it yet.

I'm the complete opposite. I was still going to see it and knew I would enjoy it, but only this last week have I warmed up enough to think I may actually really like it.
