Sound like Hasbro does not have the funds to support a TF or GI Joe movie. I wonder if they will produce cartoons with the combined universe?

Your jab makes me smile and I perfectly understand your meaning. And I smile a little more because your comment reminds one that, strictly speaking, ALL films are a a series of images put on screen to make us believe the story is real. Sometimes it works better than others--especially when it evokes neurochemical reactions that we enjoy. Most movies are technical fluff and do not deserve the name film, which we reserve for art. If we expect little, we get what we want (most action movies for me). Chances are, if you are here on the Tank, you want more from GI Joe. Maybe not art, but a ride that is 1) expertly technical, 2) true to the spirit of the original, and 3) emotionally rewarding even for non-fans. That's a tall order Hasbro currently doubts they can deliver for a profit right now, alternately on their own or through Paramount. At least they keep trying.

Those films were so successful that after two they decided to wipe the board clean.

At the risk of sparking further debate, I don't mind Dwayne Johnson. He is extremely entertaining and charismatic. Even the most asinine movie (cough Journey 2) can be rendered at least 'watchable' thanks to his humor.
But to return to the subject at hand, I took the little one to see 'My Little Pony,' and it was... Not good. Oddly enough, it reminded me of the 80's Transformers and GI Joe movies, in the sense that it felt like a cartoon episode stretched into 90 minutes. It was definitely NOT in the same league as Disney or Pixar, or even Dreamworks. If Hasbro expects to make a top-tier film studio its going to need a LOT of time, money, and talent. These are not skill sets that can be developed overnight, and it is very risky to pursue something so far outside their core competencies. |

I totally disagree with you. I would debate that Retaliation is actually not a film, but a series of images put on a screen to make us believe it was a film. I still can't believe I paid money to see it in the theaters, or get it on Blu Ray. I still cannot bring myself to view the Blu Ray.

ROC had a production budget of $175 million and made $302 million worldwide in ticket sales. Retaliation had a production budget of $130 million made $375 million worldwide in ticket sales. /facts I would guess GIJoe 3 will happen, eventually. Maybe with a cameo from TF or MASK. And I hope in my heart of hearts they adopt the gimmick of sticking the sequel number into the title, so it's called "G.I. Jo3". That would be just the best.

With as much time that has passed since retaliation, I have greatly lowered expectations. Just make something that will support a decent toyline.

I'd add a couple of other facts to the list:
ROC had a production budget of $175 million and made $302 million worldwide in ticket sales. Retaliation had a production budget of $130 million made $375 million worldwide in ticket sales. /facts I would guess GIJoe 3 will happen, eventually. Maybe with a cameo from TF or MASK.
