As someone who has sat thru various comic versions of this concept...including the recent IDW shared universe.

Anyhow...i think GI Joe may be in sort of a dormant period like in 95 - late 90s. a lot of its concepts are political stuff that may be hard to do in today's climate. especially if they are trying to sell toys. I don't really think the movies were terrible in fact. I still think Rise of Cobra is very well paced. my only really complaint for that movie is the Baroness having her scripted and I believe filmed scene where she was aware of what was going on and liked it. Much of the story did in fact take from the comics, such as the Pit, Cobra Commander using the nanomites was in the devil's due comics and somewhat very similar to the Brainwave Scanner also used. not really a fan of Retaliation not explaining things and lady jaye having a similarity to Scarlett. Jinx was GREAT. Snake Eyes was great. Red Ninjas great. Cobra Commander needed way more screen time. it had great music. Terrible ending. a final movie explaining plot holes and adding the best of ROC cast and Retaliation cast with just an overkill of Terror dromes in basically a world where nuclear bombs were now gone, return of Baroness and Destro and Scarlett with an ending on Cobra island would have been fantastic. but that isn't happening so ... moving forward I guesss

I’m not a huge fan of the two lines mixing without caveats. This is because when you have the tech that the transformers bring to the table, in my opinion, it overshadows the joe vs cobra struggle.
With that being said, I’ve always liked the idea of using decepticons as highly advanced bats that could transform in order to transport/fight/hide more effectively. That is how I use them in my joeverse. I usually buy the larger cons (leader class preferably) and then pair it with a sdcc G.I. Joe transformer crossover vehicle. I have also repainted a mobat to serve as a Megatron alt mode, and I’m working on a galvatron Hiss tank right now. I think it is a fun way to combine the franchises without making the joes obsolete. (I prefer the joe franchise so I don’t mind stepping on the tf franchise a little bit with this approach). Nice thread, thanks for the discussion |
