Yes they were. It was bad casting the Rock should have been a new character because he was not Road Block and Channing was not Duke. Aaron Eckhart should have played Duke and the Rock could be a newer version of Sgt. Slaughter.

I don't agree with them being responsible for the movies doing poorly, but I strongly agree with the concept of The Rock being his own Joe, rather than an existing Joe. The star-power was there, it would almost make a tradition out of pro-wrestlers becoming Joes, it just works.

Channing was awful in ROC. He has been awful in everything I've seen him in EXCEPT he was pretty alright in Retaliation. ROC was his usual no emoting piece of wood self, in Retaliation he was more relaxed and natural.
The Rock was great. I'm continuously impressed by his acting chops and he was a great Roadblock. I thought both movies were pretty good really. I know it's popular to crap all over them but I thought that despite their flaws they captured the spirit of GI Joe pretty good. Military action, implausible high tech weaponry, crazy villains, ninjas it's all there. I didn't feel ripped off at all coming out of the theater from either one. |

ROC was good, we crap all over for changing to much up, but I enjoyed it. It had great visuals and I was entertained. And unlike a Michael Bay Transformer film I could tell what was going theentire time. Retaliation was the same except I think the story was to big for atwo hour movie. Lazy writing , why would every single Joe be in the desert,to be killed, when we could clearly see in the first movie that the Joe team and staff was HUGE. And taking over the World is just to much to not explain in a short time, especially when you cram 45 minutes of pointless ninja stuff into the middle....but that was a cool mountain fight scene.

The CGI in ROC was subpar, the Paris chase scene was ok but clunky. The suits were a bad idea. I never thought of all the Joes in Retaliation being in the desert. I thought of it as a multi pronged attack like order 66 in Star Wars. They did not show it that way, but that is how I thought of it. Shipwreck was supposed to be in a sub somewhere when Duke called him. The Pit was compromised (again, easier this time since they knew where it was. Channing Tatum was just off Magic Mike, Step Up, and an anti-war movie with JGL. He had not been in the public eye long enough or had enough acting experience. I think if he was cast now we would see a different Duke. The Rock, he has good movies and he has bad movies, when he is good he is very good (Moana) when he sucks...it is in a movie like Joe or San Andreas. Again, (yeah yeah this movie is not for me its for a new audience blah blah) In Retaliation Chu had too much cleaning up of the mess was that was ROC to do and could not focus on what I believe he really wanted to do. (then again look what he did to Jem) Now as far as getting Tatum, Willis or Johnson back? Tatum won't. GIJOE was a career move for him. He even told them to write him out. The Rock? Maybe if they gave him his own vehicle. Like Sarge's Triple T. Feed his ego. Willis? He phoned in his performance, they did not give him enough to do. I am not sure he enjoys being in a movie where he is not the lead actor. There was no chemistry between him and Palicki, the scenes were a bit awkward. I still much prefer Retaliation over ROC. Retaliation was an attempt to go comic. Sommers was still there producing you know, but after ROC it was not as highly publicized that he was. I feel that his involvement also hurt Retaliation. So no, I don't want to see any of them come back. Get Zendaya Margot Robbie as Scarlett (she could have been elsewhere and escaped the purge) Tom Hardy or some other "names" and start over. The Rock was not in the first one so he does not have to be in the third, Duke is gone. Start over with the HCU, replace Akiva Goldsman (sorry Akiva but Transformers the Last Knight was your chance to show us what you and the writer's room could do and I personally think you blew it) Go from there.

Honestly, I liked ROC as an action movie. I didn't like it as a 'G.I.Joe' movie though, but if I pretend it has nothing to do with G.I.Joe, it's actually a fun movie to watch.

Funny, but I do exactly the opposite with the 80's movie Megaforce.
