What really sucks is that these get critically panned but will still make a shit load of money. the studio hasn't really been incentivized to do better. I'm not a TF guy, but I have a buddy who sees every one, bitches about how much it sucks, and then buys it on Blu Ray.

I would wager its failure has more to do with very strange concepts that stray too far from what your average filmgoer would remember from the cartoon, and an overall awkward/cheesy feel to it that made it feel like it should have come out a decade or two earlier. The director didn't seem to lend much trouble to the strike "'The established mythos really helped me because if we had not had such an extensive predefined back-story, we would have never been able to keep the film on schedule [because of the strike]."'

If a movie bombs or gets bad reviews, then 50% of them turn out to be really good. Plus, if you go by what the reviews say, then you will automatically assume that the movie is a failure without actually seeing it for yourself. When they came out with G.I. Joe ROC, they were appealing to both old and new viewers alike, by using familiar characters with a slight twist. They have been doing that with other movies as well.

I'm pretty sure they'll hire a better director this time.

It won’t make a difference who the director is because as long as Lorenzo di Bonaventura is in charge there’s no hope for this franchise.

I think Paramount's the problem.

Imagine a movie in the same spirit than the live action commercials from the 90's, would still the fans love it?

I'm not so sure that past performance indicates future failure. We recently saw DC make a string of movies that were critically panned. Then they finally figured it out and gave us 'Wonder Woman,' which is one of - if not THE - best film of the year.
On top of this, I see no reason to speculate about the failure of a movie that hasn't even been made yet. |
