I don't most of you are lamenting the changes made to the GIJOE universe in the upcoming movie. I realize that alot of the changes are a little hard to swalow(ie: accelerator suits). But if you look at the movie from the point of veiw that it's a stand alone story or just another sci-fi movie rather than a continuation of the GIJOE saga, it might actually turn out to be a pretty cool movie.

Actually, I was disappointed with the changes they made to Beowulf back in 2007. But when I viewed it as a movie itself, i actually found it cool.

I've been saying right along to not view the movie thru "ARAH-Tinted" glasses but to let it stand on it's own and afterwards then review it as a G.I. Joe movie (stand alone, not in comparasion to anything else).

To me, the biggest complaints aren't the changes. I think in and of itself, RoC looks underwhelming. My biggest gripe has always been that even if it weren't a Joe movie, it still doesn't look that great.
When you add "what could have been", then it's just insult added to injury. But we've all said all this already

But what about the movie's spirit? Should fans expect to see a live-action version of the cartoon, an update on the Marvel comics, or something else entirely? According to Goldner, Sommers and crew want to take filmgoers back a couple of decades: "Steve Sommers is very different. But he's perfect, because if you think about his movies like 'The Mummy,' it's the perfect action/adventure movie. If you think about what we're trying to do for G.I. Joe, really bringing back that '80s G.I. Joe from the Marvel comics -- those first 155 issues are really our focus. If you think about that, you'll understand what we're trying to get at with all those characters and all the intricate relationships. I don't think you'd see this movie as wacky. I think you're going to see this movie as being inspirational for younger kids and totally in the sweet spot for the guys who grew up on G.I. Joe." I guess he was wearing "ARAH tinted" glasses too. |

He could have also been talking about an earlier treatment for the screenplay.

I know you should expect a certain amoount of cheesy lines in an action movie, but this one looks like they went to the Cheesy Action Movie Line Dictionary and just copied out of it.

I don't want the water down cheap, go sit at the kiddie table cause this is all your going to get version, I want the 170 million dollar bonanza it should have been.
I dunno why that is so much to ask, it does not need to make a mocekry of it's roots from the 80s. It needs to be upheld and glorified. The creative power on the Hisstank alone could have done this movie a huge boost in design and application. We all have made some pretty awsome looking figures that do rebooting GI JOE justice. I can not imagine what we could make if we had $170 million.... stuff worth $12-$15 per single figures $80- $100 for vehicles etc. would fly off the shelfvess if inspired by our customs. But the talent they chose and look and feel they decided on just did not jive well. Oh well there is going to be sequals, I hope they get on the ball and start looking into what they did wrong.
